Corporate Communication the Way Forward
Today's corporate communication leaders are faced with accelerating change in the global economy, in communication channels, and in the 21st century corporation. These forces are transforming the practice of corporate communication. Michael B. Goodman and Peter B. Hirsch's new book, Corporate Communication: Strategic Adaptation for Global Practice (available in April, Peter Lang Publishing), sets the context for this year's Symposium on Reputation: Corporate Communication the Way Forward to be held Friday, March 5.

How do we respond pragmatically to this new reality? Can leading practices in corporate communication pave the way? How do we as organizations and professionals adapt strategically? This symposium will seek the answers. Goodman and Hirsch will set the stage for our dialogue. Michael Goodman is director of CCI, and Professor & Director of the MA in Corporate Communication at Baruch College/CUNY. Peter Hirsch is a corporate communication consultant with a broad history in the field. They will be joined by Robert DeFillippo, Chief Communications Officer, Global Communications, Prudential Financial Inc.; Kathleen Fitzgerald, Global Head of Communications, Chief Communications Officer, KPMG LLP; Raymond C. Jordan, Corporate Vice President, Public Affairs & Corporate Communication, Johnson & Johnson; and Raymond Pellecchia, Jr., Vice President, Corporate Communications, NYSE Euronext.

This year's Symposium on Reputation will once again be hosted by John P. Santoro, Vice President, Stakeholder Communications, Pfizer Inc and will be held in association with CCM - Council of Communication Management. Representing CCM will be Tracy Benson Kirker, Managing Partner, On the Same Page LLC and a past CCM president.

Nick Ashooh on Lessons from the Center of the Financial Meltdown
Speaking to a room filled to capacity, Nick Ashooh, candidly and with humor, detailed his recent experience as AIG's SVP of Communications. Although he outlined measures he and his team took during the height of the financial crisis, the most important lesson learned by the audience of students, faculty and practicing professionals was how he led his team day by day through this tortuous period. It was evident he modeled the Arthur W. Page Society principal - "Remain calm, patient and good-humored." - a remarkable feat given the circumstances and duration of the crisis. Ashooh will now lead the team at Alcoa, as their vice president of corporate affairs. Take a seat at this CCI Executive Briefing courtesy of Baruch's Digital Media Library.

CCI to Host Executive Masters Students from Aarhus University & Launch the Forum on Strategic Communication Leadership
In mid-August CCI will welcome students and faculty from the Executive Masters program in Corporate Communication, Aarhus School of Business, Aarhus University in Denmark. In conjunction with their visit, CCI is initiating the Forum on Strategic Communication Leadership. This Forum is intended for corporate communication professionals in strategic leadership roles and will examine the practice through the lens of the major challenges and opportunities currently facing the profession. The Forum is slated for August 17 - 20. More detail to come.

Roslyn Petelin Wins University Awards
Roslyn Petelin has annually traveled from The University of Queensland, Australia to the Conference on Corporate Communication, England. She is often accompanied by one or two of her exceptional students, who have presented their work with the confidence of seasoned scholars and practitioners. We applaud her receipt of the  "Programs that Enhance Learning 2009" award from Queensland University. It recognizes her and her colleague's, Dr. Kim Wilkins, preparation of postgraduate students in careers in writing, editing, and publishing. The citation states, "They display an extraordinary level of professionalism and commitment that they, in turn, expect and receive from their students." Their graduates can be found at prestigious organizations internationally. In 2009, Dr. Petelin was also recognized with an award for teaching excellence from her faculty. She is a CCI Member and serves on the Conference Program Committee. Kudos, Ros!

Goodman Returns to the Conference Board and China
In November, Michael B. Goodman returned to the Conference Board's Council on Corporate Strategy. His 2009 topic was "Where in the World Can You Get Good PR Help?" which covered insights from his and Peter Hirsch's upcoming book, Corporate Communication: Strategic Adaptation for Global Practice. In May Goodman will be a keynote speaker at the Conference on Intercultural Business Communication to be held at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. During his stay, Goodman will also meet with academic colleagues and practicing professionals to develop opportunities to continue CCI's research of corporate communication practice in Greater China.

Rich Teplitsky, CCI Member, Forum Alumnus, and now Forum Faculty member, created it.
