summer writing with Nino and Liana

Nino Paoli

This I Believe

I believe in laughter, and crying,

in anger, fear and jealousy,

embarrassment -- all expressions

as a way to communicate to everyone.

We all have these feelings, and we

all know how they feel.

I believe that everything has a place.

A pine cone has a tree.

A soccer ball has a field. Spray paint

has a bottle maybe far away from here

in an old dumpster.

Sand has a beach. A lonely basketball

locked up in a garage has a basketball

hoop.

A sentimental dad has a car

and that car has a shop -- probably

torn down by now.

Even though I hate bees

every animal has something to eat

and some place to be

and is somewhere on the food chain.

That is the circle of life.

I believe in life.
