Children seem to know by instinct that poetry is sometimes what you need to survive.
-- an MWC writer in the classroom

We all have something to say.  Having a writer in the classroom provides an incredible opportunity for students to find their unique and important voices.
-- a parent

The Missoula Writing Collaborative gives voice to the imaginations of our students and adds a fresh dimension to their school lives.
-- a teacher

This program opens doors that might forever remain closed.

When I was a Child

When I was a child
the days went by so fast
I would try to savor
every minute
by fishing or playing a board game
or just waiting.  Waiting
for a long, long time.

by Brandon R., Grade 4, Potomac School

I'm From

I'm from the Flathead Rez.
I'm from the fish in the river.
I'm from the pine and oak trees.

I'm from the smell after it rains.
I'm from the frybread
that tastes so good.
I'm from the "I told you so's" and
"It's your fault's."

I'm from the Jump Dances and the
powwows.
I'm from the snow that
glitters in the sun.

by Simone J., Two Eagle River High School
