Whitespaces: February Changes

The switch to DTV is almost here. By now, most of you have seen the commercials indicating that on February 17, the television analog signals will cease to broadcast and everything will now be turned over to the digital TV spectrum.

Although the plans have been in place for years and the advertisements have been continuing, President Obama is looking to delay the change by a few months because the government has run out of coupons for the converter boxes that will keep those using an antenna free for watching over-the-air broadcasts....

Dascom Integrates Multimedia Technology to New City Council Building in Hermantown, Minnesota
City of Hermantown Photo
The City of Hermantown employed Dascom for the integration of an audio/video system equipped with advanced multimedia and sound reinforcement to its newly constructed city council building in Hermantown, Minnesota.

Complimenting the building's architecture without being obtrusive are displays at council desks, displays in the public gallery and lobby cameras in the production studio for broadcasting city council meetings to the public, recording DVD and providing local cable access.

According to Lynn Lander, City of Hermantown City Administrator, the individuals involved with operation of the new system are quite impressed with presentation options.

"The audio/video upgrade provides a first-time opportunity for the audience to view illustrations, maps or other data that was formerly restricted only to the City Council. The utilization of cameras has also created a whole new interaction with the public."

At the City of Hermantown's council building, Dascom accepted the challenge of integrating advanced technology without being cumbersome to the architecture - effectively minimizing displays and working diligently to hide cables in rafters that had open beams.

"I would recommend Dascom because their employees are knowledgeable and show the utmost professionalism," Lander said.
