FAA Shocked By Huge Turnout at Helicopter Noise Meeting

red helicopter Sherman Oaks Homeowner Association (SOHA) hosted this hearing. Here is their report:

Dear Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association,

Congressman Berman's FAA Public Hearing on Helicopter Noise was an unprecedented success. More than 450 people attended on August 6th to tell the Federal Aviation Administration just how fed up they were with low-flying helicopters and helicopter noise - not just in Sherman Oaks - not just in the Valley - but all over Los Angeles County.

*Send Letters and Emails Now With Your Complaints

SOHA wants to especially thank our public officials who testified about the need to control helicopter noise: Congressman Howard Berman, Congressman Brad Sherman, Congressman Adam Schiff, County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, and City Councilman Paul Krekorian.

We also want to thank FAA Regional Administrator Bill Withycombe and the many FAA staff who carefully listened to our concerns.

And we cannot forget all of our members and friends who took valuable time out of their day to participate in the hearing and voice their concerns. Thank you!

Now, we need your help one more time to send letters and emails. Let's make sure the FAA understands just how much we want to stop helicopter noise.

Address your letters to:

Mr. William C. Withycombe
Administrator, FAA Western-Pacific Region
P.O. Box 92007
Los Angeles, CA 90009

* Include your full name and full address
* Describe a specific helicopter problem at your home
* Explain how often you hear helicopter noise
* Tell the FAA that you would like helicopters to fly higher and not hover in one place

We don't have much time, so send your letters by Monday morning, August 13th.

You can send your letter by mail or you can email it to 9-AWP-LA-NOISE@faa.gov.

Please send a copy to me at BobHillsideOrdinance@roadrunner.com.

Thank you all so much for helping.

Bob Anderson
Chair, SOHA Helicopter Noise Committee

The BCNA have been petitioning the FAA for some time now for a flight rule of 2,000 feet above ground level. Please ask specifically for this flight rule - tell them that any lower is a burden on people, wildlife and a safety hazard for all.

Canyon Canines Gone Wild?

Let's face it - our pups are not usually the problem. I mean, can a pup pick up his own poop? Make a thoughtful decision about where to pee? And if a dog is neglected or abused - crated all day, unneutered, not walked, ignored, and or physically abused, bad things do happen.

I have been privy to three dog attacks in the last week. Two were preventable and are in Animal Control's hands. The other involved big vet bills and lots of tears.

Three important things to remember about being Dogsponsible:

  1. Laws: leash laws, laws about leaving your dog in a hot car, spay/neuter, abuse and poop are to protect your pup, as well as those around you. Pups can't pay fines, book surgery or walk themselves.
  2. Safety: when you are walking your dog NEVER let him approach another dog (within biting distance) without first asking if it is okay.
  3. Etiquette: Beachwood has very limited public walkway space. You gotta pick up the poop. And while you are at it, pick up an extra poop every once in to help get this under control! Also, you are subjecting your neighbors to a Rank Walk of urine when you don't steer your babies away from entry/walkways that lead to apartments and homes. Don't let the pups get a bad rap.

Please be Dogsponsible!
