The Fight Goes On

A unified coalition of concerned Hollywood neighborhood associations, neighborhood councils and residents have been introducing a mountain of data and documentation into the administrative record proving that the Hollywood Community Plan Update is fatally flawed. The Planning and Land Use Management Committee and the whole City Council have only two paths forward. Return the plan update to the City Planning Department to correct the flaws or face an expensive legal challenge in which the court is sure to note the flaws and force the City Council to do so.

The temptation for the City Council is to not send the plan update back to the City Planning Department. After all, it's not their money they would be wasting. It's our money they would be wasting. We must show up in force at the next PLUM meeting on Tuesday, May 8th at 2:30 pm in City Hall, room 350 to let them know that we are fully aware of the plan's numerous defects and that we will not tolerate a "so sue us" attitude.

The last Planning and Land Use Management Committee meeting was held on April 17 with very little public testimony. The Committee allotted this vital issue only 15 minutes of public testimony. The neighbors were enraged that 2/3 of their voices were stifled. We must demand that ALL will get to speak at this very last PLUM hearing on the plan update.

Your presence at this hearing could make a huge difference. You don't have to speak. But they need to see the faces of those in Hollywood who protest this plan.

If you plan to attend, please contact the City Council office at 213-485-3337 to get free parking. Call them the afternoon before or the morning of the meeting.

If you would like more information, want to sign the petition, register for direct updates or if you just want to watch the testimony from the last PLUM hearing, please go to SaveHollywood.org.

The Hollywood Dell Civic Association is exploring the purchase of many of these posters to be installed throughout their neighborhood. Feel free to print this out and post near your trash receptacles. Maybe attach to the side with tape (not glue).

Violent Mugging in Whitley Heights

Violent Mugging on Whitley Ave around 11pm on April 28.

A female neighbor on Whitley Ave in the Whitley Heights neighborhood parked her car at the top of the hill at Whitley Terrace. She was walking down when a black 2 door Jetta or Accord with a blonde white female driver with an east coast Jersey accent and a black male passenger in his 20's with puffy hair and a black baseball cap drove to the top of Whitley Ave and turned around. They stopped next to the woman in front of a house and asked for directions to Poinsettia and Sunset. The neighbor was answering when the male passenger suddenly jumped out of the car, sprayed her in the face with mace and grabbed her purse. Her arm was around the strap. He yelled "Let Go", knocked her down and dragged her until the purse came free.

It's clear from the full report filed that the suspects were experienced with this type of crime. They were smart enough to turn off the victim's phone quickly to avoid attempts to track it.

Please be vigilant when walking at night alone.

Support Hollywood High School

Dear Friend of Hollywood High School,

The Hollywood High Sheiks will soon be starting another exciting season of high school sports. With the rising costs of equipment and uniforms combined with budget cuts, we look to the community for help to meet some of the funding requirements needed to ensure that the high school athletic experience continues.

Hollywood High's Athletic Director, Raul Grijalva, is working directly with Poseidon Media Group to produce a Team Poster. With your help, 800 professional quality posters will be produced and distributed throughout the community this year. The posters will be on display in the local businesses for the entire sports season. They are a great way to show your support for these fine, young athletes and the advertising dollars they generate will be donated to the school's athletic department.

We ask that you please take a few moments to review the sizes and the prices of the advertising spaces available on this season's poster and decide upon this as a fitting way to help the kids and show your local support. With your participation, this event will be a success and these students, their families, and everybody else here at Hollywood High School will thank you.
