Good Times And MORE!

Art and Spring go hand in hand. Here are a couple of opportunities to enjoy art. One is a local event and the other is curated by a neighbor, Tony Clark.

Every Thursday morning at 9 a.m. there's yoga at the Basant Lodge.

Joy Efron shared a valuable link to a new CPR method - click the link and watch the video (in the right hand column).

Your presence is needed at the PLUM Committee hearing on Tuesday, 4/17.

Basically, there's something for everyone in this Spring Time newsletter.

Enjoy!

Come ONE and ALL!

Density isn't called for in Hollywood!
The Los Angeles City Council Planning and Land Use Management Committee (PLUM) will meet again on Tuesday, April 17th at 2 p.m. in room 340 of City Hall.

It's important that PLUM send the Hollywood Community Plan Update back to the Department of City Planning. The data is inaccurate, and they are planning to force density (this means lots of people in little housing units) in the form of new development along Hollywood Blvd without any plans or funds to build up our emergency response systems and our dilapidated infrastructure. There is no mobility plan in the Hollywood Community Plan Update.

There exists much information about outlines of the numerous flaws in this plan on the website, SaveHollywood.org.

Please show up and tell PLUM to send this plan back to the Planning Department. We aren't doing well with the density we now have. Ask them to put "community" into the Hollywood Community Plan!

If you need parking instructions or want to carpool, send email to info@beachwoodcanyon.org.info@beachwoodcanyon.org.

Mt Lee - Communication Breakdown

by George Abrahams
"This vital communication hub on Mt. Lee was offline for a full 12 hours on Tuesday, April 3rd.

This Daily News article highlights the extreme vulnerability within our communication system - the very system that makes 911 calls save lives, gets fire engines to your home on time, and allows seamless communication between officers, dispatch, etc. This vital communication hub on Mt. Lee was offline for a full 12 hours on Tuesday, April 3rd due to an accident during the testing of a back-up generator. Mayor Villaraigosa attempted to downplay the significance of the communication failure, the magnitude was significant.

Councilman Mitch Englander of the 12th Council District, blamed Tony Royster, the General Services Department General Manager, for the error and is even calling for his head on some bureaucratic platter.

The real fault is with the mayor and the city council. They are responsible for the absence of a fully redundant emergency communication system. While they have been wasting money on pet projects and busy diverting the tax base increment to failed, money-losing CRA projects, our infrastructure has been badly neglected.

I suggest anyone living in Hollywood or Los Angeles, for that matter, do two things right now:

1)    Write to Councilmember.Englander@lacity.org and tell him not to get rid of Royster! This man is being made a scapegoat. There's no value in adding one more person to the unemployment lines. The City Council and Mayor should take full responsibility for this event.

2)    Write a letter to Sharon.Gin@lacity.org in the City Clerk's office. Refer to file number 12-0303. This is one more example of why we need to oppose the increased density element of the Hollywood Community Plan Update. Our inadequate infrastructure cannot support the development we currently have.

CD4 City Council office issued this notice within their newsletter dated April 6, 2012. Click on the photo to see the full text of the article. Here's a summary:

The National Park Service biologists from the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area captured a mountain lion in Griffith Park on March 28. They made a profile of the animal, collected blood and tissue samples, gave it a collar and released the animal at the capture site.

They named the lion P-22 (Puma 22). He's approximately three years old. They have known for some time that a mountain lion was here because of their motion-sensitive cameras placed in remote areas in Griffith Park.

SMMNRA is tracking the movements of five mountain lions in this large region - from Pt. Magu to Los Padres National Forest, to Griffith Park. Mountain lions need a large space to survive, often making up to 250 square miles their home turf. Because Griffith Park is so small, they don't expect to see P-22 for long.

Mountain lions are solitary animals and sightings are extremely rare. Out of an abundance of caution, when on a trail, keep small children close to you and dogs on leash. If you do encounter a mountain lion, make yourself appear as intimidating as possible by yelling, waving your arms, and even throwing objects. Slowly back away and allow the mountain lion a path to move away.

4-Month-Old Puppy Needs a Home

This puppy is about four months old. He's very playful, very sweet, very socialized, house broken, and very adorable. I think he is a Shepard/Boxer mix with very short brown and black fur. He's got a boxer face with shepherd markings.

Also, he's cuddly and very smart. This sweet puppy needs a home!
