Neighborhood Crime Report

Lately our hotline has been ringing and email buzzing about local car and home break-ins. The streets targeted most, according to our reports are: Graciosa, Gower, Dearborn, Hollyridge, Westshire, and Beachwood. Garage break-ins have taken place lately. Two happened on upper Westshire and one took place on Lechner. Property was stolen in one of these instances and the perpetrator was frightened off in the other two.

There were some suspicious sounds of a commotion a week ago and a helicopter overhead in the middle of the night. The Hollywood Police are looking into just exactly what was going on but needless to say, we all lost sleep and await a full report.

Strangers are riffling through recycling containers. When asked by neighbors to move along, there are reports of resistance and sometimes belligerence. The photos of cars driven by these strangers have been very helpful. As a result of all these reports, Senior Lead Officer Maggie Dillard has been getting additional patrol sent to our area.

According to a recent call from Maggie, a young African American suspect was arrested on Cheremoya. He has prior theft offenses and he will probably be connected to many thefts in Beachwood Canyon. Also, an older Hispanic suspect was arrested south of Franklin on Taft and may have some connection with local thefts as well.

If you are a victim and wish to know more about these arrests and any property that may have been recovered, please call 213-972-2967 and ask to speak to one of the burglary detectives.

Remember to report every crime and log license plates and descriptions of suspicious vehicles and individuals in our neighborhood.
