We Won! Redistricting Update
L.A. County rejects bid for second Latino-majority district
Supervisors, split on the issue, approve a redistricting map that leaves lines largely unchanged, protecting incumbents. But the move sets the stage for a costly legal battle.
By Rong-Gong Lin II and Jason Song, Los Angeles Times
September 28, 2011
(Here are a few paragraphs from the full article - see link to it below)
"In the end, Mark Ridley-Thomas, a black supervisor who had been allied with Molina, switched sides and supported a plan by Supervisor Don Knabe. That plan largely preserves the five existing districts. Supervisors Zev Yaroslavsky, a possible L.A. mayoral candidate, and Michael D. Antonovich also backed Knabe's plan. Ridley-Thomas had been an outspoken backer of a second Latino-majority district, invoking memories of the 1960s civil rights movement. "They were not attempting to be apologists for the status quo," he said. "They gave new definition to patriotism."

Tour Bus Sound System Update
 | | Amplified sound may end soon. |
On September 30th, at 8:30 in the morning, the Public Safety Committee met to hear a motion by Councilmembers Labonge and Garcetti addressing the issue of tour buses and their amplified sound. The peace that we expect in our neighborhood is often interrupted by the tour bus drivers as they drive on our streets.
The City Council Public Safety Committee voted to send the matter to the City Attorney to draft an ordinance. If you would like to follow this issue, the council file number is 11-1128 Tour Buses/Headphone-Based System.
Click on the link below and you will be taken to that council file:

Searching for a Hollywood Sign Photo?
 | | This was taken from outside the Bronson Caves |
Why not try it the easy way? BCNA founders, George Abrahams and Fran Reichenbach have been working on a website that can assist in the effort to get just the right photo of the Hollywood Sign without ever entering Beachwood Canyon. Check it out. We are in the process of replacing the photos with sharper, brighter images but this is our test model. Tell us what you think.
Expansion will come as ideas arrive. We are planning on offering a step by step guide to several hiking spots as well. Also, we plan to include maps and more. We value your comments.

Penny - One of a Kind Dog!
 | | Penny got to stay with a family for a while who had a very large dog and a little pug. Sadly, three was too many for the landlord |
Her name is Penny and she was being dumped at SLA a week and a half ago when this other lovely couple was there to adopt an animal. They decided to help Penny and try her out. Penny got along well with their large and small dogs but alas, they cannot have 3 dogs where they live. So now Penny needs to be placed.
She is so good and sweet. We believe she deserves better than this. Penny is only 4 years old. She's good with other dogs, loves kids and people, is healthy, spayed, up to date on shots, and just a beautiful Golden Retriever/Chow mix.
If no one takes her, she will be shelter bound by the end of this weekend. Here's her own special link: http://www.adoptapet.com/pet6257657.html
If you can't take her, perhaps you know someone who might be able to foster her for a little while. Food and medical are covered when you foster an animal through the Adopt-a-Pet organization. Please consider this and the future of this very sweet dog, Penny.
Please contact me, Katya at katyalidsky@gmail.com or call me at 323-559-5942.
 | | Penny is a good, loving and relatively young dog. Send email to katyalidsky@gmail.com |

Mila is Homeless
Hi my name is Mila. I've been tossed around quite a lot. I was in the pound and was rescued by Forte moving in an out of foster homes and finally got adopted, thinking I'd found my forever home. Then my guardian lost her home and started living in her car, so here I am, homeless again.
I am really easy to care for. I am potty-trained, don't bark, and I like to sleep most of the time. I do like to go out for brisk walks, but don't need to burn off a lot of energy. I like other dogs and I get along with cats, too. I am almost deaf but that doesn't bother me, I just get sounder sleep. I don't need that much attention, but if you wanna give it to me I will love you for it. I like to snuggle and love rolling around on a rug, especially after I've just had a bath. Being clean makes me happy!
So if you're looking for a low maintenance companion who's a little bit of silly and a lot of snuggles, I'm your gal!
