Keeping Upper Deronda Accessible
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association is hard at work with various City departments along with the Hollywood United Neighborhood Council to create a safe accessible roadway at Upper Deronda. It has been decided that signs must be installed temporarily to divert traffic away from Deronda until a more permanent solution can be created and implemented.
Although not likely, if you are new to the issue, here is our greatest concern:
1) Keeping that access gate open and available for the LAFD, law enforcement and Emergency Medical. They need access to the helispot because a fire engine needs to be there in case of a fire to aid helicopter access to the water tower. They need access to protect Mount Lee or get it back online if it should go down for any reason.
2) Eliminating gridlock, which could delay or prevent Fire or Medical crews from responding to emergencies.
What is so important about Mt. Lee? Mt. Lee is the City of Los Angeles ONLY communication hub. It is used all day (24/7) to enable Fire, Police, and Medical to communicate with one another. There is staff there (3 shifts) all the time. If this tower goes offline for even a few minutes, emergency response can be delayed. If Information Technology needs help reestablishing this service, this help needs to be able to move swiftly up Deronda, through that gate up to the tower. Every minute is critical!
We owe the City of Los Angeles our best effort to make this roadway accessible at ALL times, not just during the weekends or high tourist traffic times. It needs to be open ALL the time.
We promise to keep you up to date on this effort. When you see the signs up at Deronda/Ledgewood, Heather/Ledgewood, Mulholland/Ledgewood, you will know that we were successful.
While we make this effort, we are also working with the DOT, West Traffic, and Parking Enforcement to focus needed attention on the Mulholland area and at the Scenic View to contain the parking/traffic mess that often occurs there. We are multi-tasking for the safety and wellbeing of not only our community, but also the City of Los Angeles.
