Tourists' Vehicles Driving You Bonkers?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
crazy manUntil recently, all GPS systems sent visitors to Deronda. Some systems still do, but the City is trying to work that out. More adventuresome tourists wander other streets in search of the best Hollywood Sign photo opportunity.
Recently, neighbors on Deronda along with the Hollywoodland Homeowners Association partnered with the City, the Hollywood Sign Trust and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to create a brilliant solution: Create a series of signs that depict the image of the Hollywood Sign and arrows to guide motorists to the Scenic Lookout above Lake Hollywood.
The Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association will probably donate to help defray the costs of having these signs created and installed (approximately $2,400). We would love to split the burden with the HHA but at this time of year, our funds are down.
Can you help by donating (any amount)? Click on the Donate button and your funds will be earmarked for the Tourist Guidance Signs. Those funds will be given to the HHA to help fund this worthy endeavor. Thanks for your help!
Tour Bus Update from Council Deputy Sharon Shapiro
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I just wanted to share some numbers with you:

On December 10th- CHP's commercial enforcement unit conducted a task force in Hollywood, geared towards ensuring that tour providers, limo companies and party buses had the proper licensing, safety functions, etc.

-85 stops

-47 citations (roughly 35% were to tour operators)

-11 impounds (rogue tour companies, party buses with open liquor and

no partition between driver and passengers, etc.)

Again, this was focused in the Hollywood area and shows great effort. Our office will continue to work with CHP in regards to the constant, problematic companies.

Thank you and best wishes for 2011!

BCNA Has Board Seats With YOUR Name on Them!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, you're about to be recruited. Have you been wondering how you could give back to the community that you love so much? If the answer is "yes", please contact us. We would love to welcome you on our Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association Board of Directors. Sounds formal but as anyone who has ever attended our meetings can tell you, we're very down-to-earth. Advocating and activating doesn't have to include starch.
We have a couple board seats open up and you're invited to throw your hat in the ring These are one-year-term seats.
What you can do:
1)    Be a resident of Beachwood Canyon willing to work with our team.
2)    Be willing to attend board meetings every few months and maybe a hearing or two (or more if you're up to it).
3)  Send us a brief bio stating who you are and your desire to serve in this capacity.
4)  Why not send a photo? Not necessary but let's have a little fun with this.
5)   After sending at least the bio, we'll put your name on the agenda but you need to attend the Annual Meeting:
Thursday, February 3rd, 2011 at 7:30 pm at the Village Coffee Shop
We'll have ballots ready with your name on them and a special open spot or two for
write-ins.
