Greetings!

Happy Fall 2010! We know that you're busy with Thanksgiving plans and Holiday excitement. We have done some checking and discovered that things are relatively calm in our canyon. However, your BCNA board continues to be vigilant and responsive to issues and events as they arise. This Fall, there is nothing urgently pressing on the agenda, so we are asking any and all who are in need of our services, to contact us. To make that easier, our hotline number has changed. Please make a note of the new hotline: 323-462-BCNA (2262). Keep that number handy. If you call or send email we will make sure that your issue gets addressed in a timely manner and we will engage the services of our local City departments to assist you and us to get that done. This is what we do all year round, meeting or no meeting. We are here for you.

This Holiday Season would not be complete without caroling and other musical festivities. We'll keep you up to date on these happenings as they are scheduled.

Have a great Thanksgiving. Be safe and well.

Breaking News: (The public is being left out - hence the last minute notice) City Council Hearing Tomorrow at 10 a.m. (11-10-10)

City Council to Vote on New Community Plan Overlay Districts on Wednesday

The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday will vote on a proposed ordinance that will fundamentally change how Community Plans are updated in Los Angeles. Among other things, the new City law will:

  • Enable the City to effectively upzone and change zoning within Community Plan areas without a formal Community Plan update
  • Enable the City to spot-zone individual sites with only adjustments and exceptions ... variances will not be required any more
  • Potentially override existing Community Design Overlay Districts, Pedestrian Oriented Districts and Q conditions
  • Undermine the new Baseline Hillside Ordinance ... this ordinance does not protect hillsides and canyons

For more information on the proposed law, view Council File 09-2199 at CityofLA.org. A copy of the proposed ordinance and LA Neighbors United's initial comments http://www.laneighbors.org/PDF/Open-letter-to-LA-leaders.pdf

For agenda, go to: http://beachwoodcanyon.org/hearingnotices.htm (On that page, you will have three active links - the first one is the hearing notice. The next two are powerful letters with information on the devil dwelling in the details of this proposal.

Write your comments to Tom Labonge tonight: Tom.Labonge@lacity.org In the subject line, refer to Council File 09-2199 before City Council 11-10-10 at 10 a.m.
