Vegetable Gardens in the Canyon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How many of you are growing food in your yard or on your balcony? Maybe you're interested in building your own personal garden in the future?
We invite you to a pilot discussion opportunity in our courtyard at 11 a.m, Saturday, October 9th.
This will be an informal conversation geared toward sharing information about soil, plants, climate, etc. We can learn so much from one another.
Also planned is an annual Beachwood Growers Seed Swap where we gather seeds from our happiest plants and bring a few to share. (Date to be announced based on interest.)
If you have young ones, please consider sharing this YouTube video with them. This young man is only 11-years-old but is very inspirational.
Location: 2751 Westshire Dr. - parking is best in the Village.
Noisy Neighbors - LAPD Noise Enforcement Guidelines
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thanks to Barbara Pettitt for researching this issue.

Please check this site:

http://www.lapdonline.org/special_operations_support_division/content_basic_view/1031

She has offered the following reference for your edification:

41.40 LAMC- Construction Noise
Engaging in construction, repair, or excavation work with any construction  type device, or job-site delivering of construction materials without a  Police Commission permit;
Between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.;
In any residential zone, or within 500 feet of land so occupied, before  8:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. on any Saturday, nor at any time on any Sunday;
In a manner as to disturb the peace and quiet of neighboring residents or any reasonable person of normal sensitiveness residing in the area.

If you feel that your neighborhood is being negatively impacted by noise generated from any one property (see list of violations above), please contact Sharon.Shapiro@lacity.org.

Since not all Sunday noise is construction oriented, this ordinance won't help the issue of yard work or amplified music, etc so perhaps we can all decide to adopt a friendly policy of avoiding these types of noise generators on Sundays. Unenforceable, yes, but certainly grassroots. The concept of creating "good neighbor policies" amongst us neighbors is a step above and beyond the need for an ordinance to govern such behavior. Are we up to this? What do you think? info@beachwoodcanyon.org  (Maybe we should create a blog to discuss these issues - any ideas on that?)

Monster McMansion For Sale
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association invested a whole lot of money and time to keep this Monster McMansion (located on Durand at Heather) from becoming a reality in our quaint community. We appealed the decision to build this - we fought local organizations and the city and lost when the builder brought in Rob Glushon - big land use attorney. Sadly, this McMansion, which is still unfinished, is (as predicted) for sale. Many have approached us feeling remorse for being duped into supporting this project. Let's not allow another oversized greed-inspired vanity project replace our sweet open space. There's precious little of that left. (And join or renew your membership in Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Assn. Check our website for more info www.BeachwoodCanyon.org)
