Candlelight Vigil - This Saturday, December 12, 2009
Hello friends,
This Saturday, December 12, from 5:30 to 6:30pm, we are organizing a
candlelight vigil at the Village Green at Beachwood and Belden Drives,
Hollywood, as part of an international day of action on climate change. Will
you join us?
Vigils will be held on Saturday all over the world to impress the world leaders
gathered in Copenhagen with the critical importance of climate negotiations
reaching a serious agreement to limit fossil fuels and change our priorities to
promote alternative energy. Instead of spending money waging war, we want our
leaders to invest in our future survival on the planet.
Come and join us for any amount of time between 5:30 and 6:30 PM! Bring a
candle and a sign if you want to, or we will have some there to
share.
If you can't make it to ours, check out this map showing events across the
world.

See you there!

Beachwood Power Project Update

There are a couple of LADWP projects going on at once in Beachwood
Canyon. It all started when the higher ups in the city noticed that
Beachwood Canyon's power usage was going off the charts. They noticed
this years ago and planned to add an additional current or circuit to
our neighborhood but it took this long to get it designed, etc. The new
circuit is being added to the poles up Gower to Temple Hill and
branching in two directions from there. One is up Gower past Temple
Hill to Graciosa. The other one is over on Temple Hill to Beachwood.
From these two points (Graciosa and also Beachwood at Temple Hill), I'm
not certain how far this will reach. They intend on taking the heat off
of the existing circuit home by home connecting them to the new
circuit.
The other part of this is the clean up. Beachwood poles have old
cables that fed the historic lights in the past. This cable has been
abandoned long ago and replaced by upgraded wires. But, for some
reason, the old cable was never removed. Since the LADWP planned to
place a new circuit on these poles, they felt the need to remove the
old abandoned wires to make more room to do their work and clean up the
place a bit. The State Utilities Commission has a new ordinance that
dictates that wires must be a certain distance from one another. This
is especially true for brush areas like ours. So they need all the
space they can get in order to do their work and leave the wires spaced
properly.
I'm their point gal right now and have had to intercede regarding
the project as it affected neighbors on Gower (their views were
threatened). The plan was dramatically adjusted and things seem to be
going forward without a hitch. Return to Top

DASH Bus Update

Message from Bruce Gillman, LADOT:
As a former Beachwood Canyon resident (lived on Belden) I am
very familiar with our DASH route there. Rest assured we are reaching out
to all our stakeholders by soliciting comments for our Line
By Line analysis of all transit services we currently provide: Downtown
DASH; Community DASH; Commuter Express; CitYride and Charter Buses. The
Line BY Line analysis looks at efficiency, level of outside subsidies received
and duplication of services.
We are encouraging our riders to provide inputs via a public website.
Please share the web site with fellow association members, neighbors and
friends: http://ladotlbl.tmdinc.net
In the weeks to come, we will be listing the various sites and dates around the
City for public hearings regarding our proposed recommendations. The
exact time frames will be listed on the site and advertised in a variety of
ways.
Sincerely,
Bruce L. Gillman
