Gower Update The LADWP met neighbors on site at Gower and Graciosa last Friday. After
much discussion, they were able to alter the plan at Graciosa and Gower
to allow them not to change the pole that would have been a major eye
sore for many neighbors on Gower and above and to the west. They will NOT be raising several
poles that wrap around Gower at Temple Hill. The poles starting
at Scenic will be raised up five feet all the way down to Carmen Place.
The poles south of Carmen Place will go up much higher out of
necessity. The LADWP have
worked very hard to continue to adjust their plans for the neighbors. I
hope that they realize how grateful we are. In the future, I'm hoping
that they will contact the Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association far in advance of any upcoming projects. All
in all, their adjustments have saved the neighborhood the energy that
would have been necessary to fight the entire project and all the
attorney fees as well. Everyone wins this time around. Thanks
for being so engaged and also so very polite to our LADWP guys. Hunter is the guy that is leading the implementation of
this project and he will call me when they are about to close Gower north of Scenic. We will let the neighbors know in advance to avoid confusion and minimize any inconvenience. If you see them working, don't hesitate to say a kind word or offer some lemonade. More info: info@beachwoodcanyon.orgReturn to top |

Tabby Cats Need Home

The photo above was taken
on Oct 14. These are the last 2 kittens from a litter that I rescued from the place where I work. They were born July 20 and I took them and their mom when they were one day old. They are lovey doves and I would love for them to be placed together, but it's not necessary. Needless to say, they are very attached to each other. They are close to being twins, but with a little time, you can tell a slight difference in color. They're both males. Do you
know anybody who may be interested in giving them a loving home?
Please contact me at NGirten@ppcla.com

Legislative Update

We were honored to have Assemblymember
Mike Feuer speak at our Beachwood Canyon Neighborhood Association Annual
Meeting last January. Since then, he's been very busy. Among many of his
successes, is the passing of AB91 - please read below. Also, Feuer is visiting
other neighborhood associations in the area. Click the link at the bottom of the text to go to his website. Legislative Update from
Assemblymember Mike Feuer
Governor Signs Bills
Last month, I called on you to urge Governor Schwarzenegger to sign several
bills to help improve the lives of your fellow Californians. Your efforts made
a difference. In fact, this year the Governor signed 9 of my
measures-along with two "committee bills" that emerged from the Judiciary
Committee I chair. Among the most significant are laws to strengthen
public safety, protect basic legal rights, safeguard nursing home patients,
encourage Good Samaritans to help in emergencies and improve water quality:
AB 91: Interlock
Ignition Devices for DUI offenders. This bill will save lives. It
establishes a pilot program in four counties, including Los Angeles, requiring
offenders to install ignition interlock devices (IIDs) on their vehicles.
The offender must exhale into the IID before starting the car. If the IID
registers more than a nominal level of alcohol, the car won't start. (The
Governor held a special signing ceremony, online here, to announce the enactment of this law, which
was the number one legislative priority in the nation for Mothers Against Drunk
Driving and the subject of multiple supportive newspaper editorials throughout
California.) To learn more: www.assembly.ca.gov/feuer

Pedal Patch Community Now In Beachwood
Here's what Pedal Patch says about themselves: "Pedal Patch Community (PPC) is a community-based social enterprise
located in Los Angeles, California that serves as the umbrella for a
variety of affiliated programs and program services, which address food
security, health and nutrition, community development, land use, and
the environment. We help grow healthy, sustainable neighborhoods one
patch at a time." Here's what they are doing for me (and have done for another neighbor on Glen Oak): For a very small fee, they walked my property and wrote a plan for where I could plant my edible goodies and where to plant other things. They made a plan and presented it to me whereby, at a reasonable cost, they would work with me to see this all come about. These specialists will be training me on how to do the right thing by my land. If you are curious, just check them out for yourself at PedalPatchCommunity.comDid I tell you about their "Hanging Fruit" program? From their website: "PPC's Hanging Fruit Program is an easy and simple way to give back
by donating unused food that would eitherwise go to waste on the vine
or fall to the ground. By empowering neighbors to share in the harvest
and care of urban fruit trees, we are preventing waste, building
community knowledge and resources, and creating sustainable, cost-free
ways to obtain healthy, locally-grown food.
Lend a helping hand by donating your unused or unwanted fruit, or
help in the harvest! To learn more, please contact us by clicking HERE!"
So, maybe you don't have the time or desire to do any planting or gardening. Maybe you need help when your fruit trees start happening. Go to that link and offer to share. They will help you gather and make sure it gets to the needy or to your favorite charity group.
