Captain Girmala's March Report for Beachwood Canyon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello
Beachwood Canyon Neighbors,
This is the
March newsletter for your area. I had some wonderful and informative meetings
with members your area, many impromptu, as I drive around and hope to meet with
all of you, eventually.
In the
area of property crime, vigilance and friendly reminders to neighbors and
friends are encouraged. We are still seeing the area being plagued with
burglary/theft from motor vehicle, especially on Beachwood Drive from the 2700
block to the 3200 block. Again, property left in plain view has been the target.
Please let us know if you see loiterers, particularly people on bicycles
looking into cars, transients who are milling around the area without purpose.
These are our perpetrators. Your attentiveness will help make the difference in
a reduction of crime in this area. We have also been assigning our patrol
units-even those not specifically assigned to Beachwood Canyon-to break off
from regular duties for two-hour increments-and provide additional visible
patrols in highlighted areas.
I
received some calls and emails regarding traffic control by Department of
Transportation officers in the area of Franklin and Argyle. I did contact the
Deputy Chief for Hollywood Area's DOT enforcement, and I believe the problem
was corrected. We all know that the Franklin corridor and its congestion affect
Beachwood Canyon in so many ways.
We have
had some great results with driving under the influence (DUI) task force
operations conducted by our West Traffic Division partners in the Franklin and
Sunset corridor-Friday and Saturdays.
In the
area of violent crime, we are fortunately in relatively good shape. Hollywood
in general has been involved in eleven task force operations focused on
everything from gang issues to vending. Our entertainment district partners
have been very communicative with me in order to avoid problems with less
reputable promoters who have no connection to our wonderful community. All of
these issues, as you know, have an impact on who is coming into Hollywood Area
and what their intentions may be. Of course we want our wonderful town to
thrive. Our message: Come, have fun, be responsible and respectful of those who
call Hollywood home.
I have
also met with some of our Hollywood area developers who are proceeding with
very ambitious projects throughout our Area, including the Columbia Square
Project at Sunset Boulevard and El Centro. I am very committed to these
meetings at the ground floor level since each and every one will have some type
of impact on Hollywood. I do my best to communicate our concerns and hopes
during the discussions.
Emergency
preparedness and fire safety never leave our radar. Battalion Chief John Drake
and I speak with great frequency on the area issues. He is a great partner.
Your continued vigilance with regard to transients in the area and hazardous
conditions is such a necessary component to the prevention piece. Before we
know it, summer will be here. You have a fantastic Senior Lead Officer in Mike
Shea (213-793-0710 or 22343@lapd.lacity.org). Please continue to inform him of
any potential issues. I am also available to help in any way possible.
Thank
you for your on-going support and commitment. Community policing is OUR
partnership and I am so proud and grateful to be in this relationship with you.
You can
reach me at 24916@lapd.lacity.org.
All my
best,
Beatrice Girmala24916@lapd.lacity.org213-972-2900 Return to Top~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Self Defense Workshop in Beachwood Canyon ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you interested? We're in talks with some local (Beachwood Canyon) self defense experts who are willing to give a brief intensive demonstration to willing neighbors at some point in the very near future. We are exploring many venues and need to know if you would be interested in learning some of these techniques. Under consideration is a possible $5 suggested donation for a 1 1/2 hour workshop. You will walk away with some keys to protecting yourself and even for avoiding conflict or confrontation. This is not just physical! Please write to me at BeachwoodCanyon@sbcglobal.net - in the subject line, say "Yes, I'm interested in a self-defense workshop." If enough are interested, this can happen rather soon.
