An Evidence-Based Approach to HR

An evidence-based approach to HR is a methodology for determining which HR policies and programs will have the greatest impact on subsequent business results by using quantitative methods to identify the casual relationships between the management of people and business results (both financial and non-financial).  Alternatively, such an approach could be thought of as a "decision-science" for human capital management.

Although most organizations are now awash in much of the data needed to undertake such an approach, very few organizations have yet developed this capability.  We predict that within the next 5 years, an evidence-based approach to HR will become the norm - and that the early adaptors of this approach will reap significant benefits.

Our recent Harvard Business Review article outlines the methodology, provides case examples, and summarizes the necessary analytic tools.
