candle outO God, by the passion of your blessed Son you made an instrument of shameful death to be for us the means of life: Grant us so to glory in the cross of Christ, that we may gladly suffer shame and loss for the sake of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Seder

Join us, Wednesday, April 8, 2009.  6:30pm for the Community Seder Supper.
We share in the traditional prayers and journey which shapes our life and table with Christ!  It's the full spread.  Only space for 50, so make sure you're there with your friends.

There's no charge to attend our Seder for anyone.  An RSVP to the Church Office (533-1943) is always helpful for planning.

Yes we can!  And we are!
canned foodGuided by our Associate, Mike Woods, the youth and young adults, have lead us through an seemingly impossible feat - gathering 10,000 cans of food in cans or cash for Hawaii Food Bank.
With the latest sponsors for the Holy Week 30 Hour Famine, and Sunday's offering - we are a mere 1,000 cans away - that's a mere $400 worth of cans.
During Holy Week, and this Sunday of the Resurrection, as a gift of thanksgiving for the Cross and the Resurrection of our Lord - I ask a special act in addition to your usual stewardship and offerings to God - bring your spare change on Sunday!
Let's be the light that Christ calls us to be.  I pray we can see that even that which seems only insignificant bits can also powerful instruments of God's new life in the world, right now!

From Henri Nouwen for Tuesday in Holy Week
betrayalJesus was troubled in spirit, and declared, "Very truly, I tell you, one of you will betray me." John 13:21
This moment when Jesus is handed over to those who do with him as they please is a turning point in Jesus' ministry. It is turning from action to passion. After years of preaching, healing and moving to wherever he wanted to go, Jesus is handed over to the caprices of his enemies. Things are now no longer done by him, but to him. He is flagellated, crowned with thorns, spat at, laughed at, stripped and nailed naked to a cross. He is a passive victim, subject to other people's actions. From the moment Jesus is handed over, his passion begins, and through this passion, he fulfills his vocation.
It is important for me to realize that Jesus fulfills his mission not by what he does, but by what is done to him. Just as with everyone else, most of my life is determined by what is done to me and thus is passion.
Dear Jesus, forgive me all my betrayals.
