Thinking about Advent
"The house lights go off and the footlights come on. Even the chattiest stop chattering as they wait in darkness for the curtain to rise. In the orchestra pit, the violin bows are poised. The conductor has raised his baton. In the silence of a midwinter dusk, there is far off in the deeps of it somewhere a sound so faint that for all you can tell it may be only the sound of the silence itself. You hold your breath to listen. You walk up the steps to the front door. The empty windows at either side of it tell you nothing, or almost nothing. For a second you catch a whiff of some fragrance that reminds you of a place you've never been and a time you have no words for. You are aware of the beating of your heart...The extraordinary thing that is about to happen is matched only by the extraordinary moment just before it happens. Advent is the name of that moment."
- Frederick Buechner, Whistling in the Dark, pp. 2,3

6:30pm Potluck Dinner with a little singing and fellowship

7:30pm We'll depart to visit folks that are unable to get out from the church ohana and those we may know.  We'll share some fresh SOUL Food Soup and Sunday School Decorated Cookies.

Make sure you mark your calendars for our night of dinner, visit others with cookies and carols.
Don't Miss Wednesdays.
This year we make a reprise of Wednesday @ Pete's.  Come to church, 6:30pm.  A simple dinner of soup and salad.  We'll share reflections and discussions - this season focused on the lectionary readings.  We'll be done by 8:30pm with simple night or compline prayers.

Cross Generational Gatherings - BE THERE
This Sunday following the 8:30 combined worship, and then between worship gatherings the weeks after (9am), come and share your stories of life and faith so we can all grow together in our experience of God's work and grace.

THIS SUNDAY - The Jesse Tree

Lokahi Gifts and Military In-Gathering
Bring your gift tags and unwrapped gifts on Sunday Dec. 14 for our delivery to Lokahi before Christmas.  If you didn't get a gift tag or can't get your gifts to church by Dec. 14, final drop-off can be done by Dec. 16 at the Church Center.
The Lokahi Giving Project provides people with opportunities to relieve the burden of struggling individuals and families, especially the working "gap group," through donations of goods, cash equivalents, enriching experiences, and advocacy.
Also...
Our annual in-gathering for military families-specifically those in need as identified through the Army chaplains of Tripler Army Medical Center-concludes Sunday, December 21.  If you haven't given your gift to our local heroes and heroines serving with duty and diligence, please consider doing so.

God bless  you in these days of pregnant anticipation.  May we all experience the power of God among us, Emmanuel!
