Wilson Sophia 2 Speakers

When Sophia was introduced in 2001, it quickly knocked the audio
world on its ear, collected rave reviews in all sectors of the audio
press, and achieved a kind of cult status.
It is no small thing to improve upon something so special as Sophia.
The design team knew that in developing Alexandria X-2, MAXX Series 2,
and the new Duette, they had uncovered new technologies that, if
applied to Sophia, would improve her performance. So, with a protective
eye on preserving those qualities that imbued Sophia with her intrinsic
grandeur, Wilson Audio set out to improve on her strengths through an
application of these new technologies. Introducing Sophia Series 2. New Crossover
Anti-Jitter technology reduces
interaction among the drivers and reduces the noise floor. The music
emerges from a blacker background.
Bass-Alignment technology achieves bass that is at once deeper, faster, and more articulate.
New Tweeter
Anti-Diffraction
technology, first developed for the MAXX 2 is applied to the tweeter,
successfully diminishing back wave interference in the time and
frequency domain. Sophia Series 2 is more holographic, more detailed,
and sweeter.

B&W 800D Speakers

The
top-of-the-range 800D inhabits an elegantly curved cabinet and stands
on a heavy cast aluminium plinth that also houses the substantial
crossover.
With twin RohacellŽ sandwich cone woofers it can
deliver prodigious amounts of bass when called upon to do so, even in
large listening rooms. Bass output is reinforced by a down-firing
Flowport™ and is configured to have a taut characteristic, enabling the
800D to work optimally in a wide range of 'real world' rooms and
acoustics.
The geometry of the MarlanŽ midrange 'head' enclosure and the
separate tweeter on top, allows the 800D to project an uncannily
realistic and three-dimensional image, one that is more stable with
changes in listener position than more conventionally shaped speakers.
While supremely powerful it may be, but the 800D can also portray
the finest nuances from a recording. So good is it at revealing detail
that top recording engineers have said that it will change the way they
mix and edit programme. This level of detail retrieval is a result of
the unique combination of our FST™ midrange driver and what is arguably
the world's finest tweeter. With the first break-up of its diamond dome
at 70kHz, it delivers truly pistonic motion up to and beyond the limits
of human hearing.
As befits a speaker of this calibre, the 800D contains several
unique refinements, most notably the ultimate in crossover capacitors
using silver and gold.
