You Waited ... All Month
And now, we are back ...

Howdy folks!

Is that Spring out there? YES! (and a hardy woo-hoo)  What a perfect weekend for an art show!

Got company in town? Good - show off your cultural diversity, bring'em to the Heights!

First Saturday Arts Market has shaped up to be a fantastic looking show and I'm happy to report to new food vendors debuting .  Juice Girl - formerly of Whole Foods fame will join us with a healthy selection of fresh, made to order juice drinks.  Wild Bean Coffee Co. too will open for business Saturday at the market serving up Organic Fair Trade coffee by the glass.  What's Up Cupcake! will of course be right out front to serve those in need.

Next Saturday, April 10th, many of the artists listed below and I will be in nearby Fulshear, TX for the first annual Cross Creek Ranch Fine Arts Festival.  My first big event to coordinate outside of the art market! I have marked the artists here that are attending with the festival logo - Visit the website I setup that lists some of the 70 fine artists attending!

I hope you can make it to both shows - we've it all!   Fulshear by the way isn't that far, its between Sugar Land & Katy.  Directions are on the site.  Also you might peruse the Cross Creek Ranch website.  The developer (and our sponsor) Trendmaker Homes that is behind the Cross Creek Ranch Fine Arts Festival.  I am thoroughly impressed with the way they have immersed themselves within this community and made improvements to the environment.  Tree farms! Even a full creek restoration!  More on all this next week in my newsblast.

For now - kick back and preview the wonderfully talented artists that will be in attendance Saturday -
You can also preview some of the music from our guest band, Westbound, on the website!

Stop by the "Info" tent and say hello!

Cheers!
Mitch

P.S. - hope you don't mind the sudden email format change - its temporary I promise. My interns eloped and left me to do all this stuff!

P.S.S. Check out our friends at Houston Studio Glass every weekend in April!

And Saturday night The Jon Hogan Band House concert with Jonathan Byrd in the Suzanne Anderson Properties building on 11th Street - Details

Michelle Waldren Beads

I am a lampwork Artist in that I create glass beads and other various items, such as paperweights, and fan pulls, on a lampwork torch. Lampworking is like glassblowing on a smaller scale. I use Italian glass rods (Morretti)because of the beautiful range in color that they carry. All my work is fully annealed in a kiln, so that it is hardened and durable. I create all the fine details in all my work.

Sam VanBibber

What is Steam Punk Jewelry? It gets its popularity from a growing resistance to corporate modernization, the mass commercialization of virtually everything, coupled with the surge of nostalgia for all things vintage and antique.
All jewelry is hand assembled, one of a kind and created by me and is 99% re-purposed or recycled found pieces,Broken unrepairable vintage jewelry, wind up watches, gears and other found objects that were considered "junk" and ready to be tossed away. I have rescued them and made beautiful Art pieces to be worn and cherished.

Westbound Performs 2 - 6pm

An energetic duo performing soft and sweet jazzy songs, classic rock, Americana, and outlaw country.

Originally trained in classical and choral singing, Rebecca strayed from that path and began finding her true voice in blues, americana and jazz. From there she developed a love of songwriting, fascinated by the endless potential a song has to tell a story or share a moment.

For 17 years, John has played different instruments in rock bands all over Texas, and is defined by the music he plays. He approaches music with a fire and a passion matched by nothing else in his life, so much so that he regularly and happily loses both sleep and guitar strings in the quest to take the music higher.

Following a series of luck-based circumstances, the two met and discovered an extraordinary  musical chemistry. It was thus that the acoustic duo, Westbound, made its way into the world.

John has found his voice beside Rebecca, playing acoustic guitar and harmonica, singing backup vocals, and playing a very unique and crowd-pleasing stomp-box. Rebecca holds the audience captive with a versatile voice suited for everything from raunchy blues to sweet serenades.

Westbound is currently writing and recording their debut  album, Blackjack Road. They also play frequently at bars, restaurants, festivals, artist markets, living rooms and open mics in Houston, Galveston, Clear Lake and Austin, TX, and in Clarksdale, MS.

You can contact Westbound at thewestboundband@gmail.com, and connect with them online at http://thewestboundband.com.
