Brew Fest
Summer's Hottest Ticket - Gulf Brew
Festival goers and beer lovers unite for Lafayette's biggest beer festival, Gulf Brew, in downtown Lafayette's Parc International on July 24. That evening from 6-10 p.m., patrons can sample the most delicious brews from Florida to Texas, while listening to live music under air-conditioned tents. In the style of Germany's Oktoberfest, micro-brewers and brew masters from across the Gulf South will showcase craft and specialty beer at the festival. The band Picardy Birds (funk, soul, rock) kick off the evening, followed by Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, a group of classically trained musicians from New Orleans known for their funk and fortitude. Gulf Brew is a fundraiser of the Acadiana Center for the Arts, which helps employ musicians and artists, introduce arts into the local schools and support a first class visual arts exhibition series. Gates open at 6 p.m. for both taster and non-taster (those not drinking) ticket holders. Only those 21 and older will be allowed to attend. For information click here  or call (337) 233-7060.
Louisiana Shrimp Salad
The key to cooking shrimp as with any seafood is to not overcook. Most people have a tendency to cook seafood more than necessary. It is always best to undercook as the cooking process continues a short while after you have taken the shrimp off the burner. Since the oil spill, many federal, state and local agencies have worked collaboratively on timely testing of water and seafood samples to ensure the safety of Louisiana seafood. Due to this kind of diligence, seafood from the Gulf that is shipped across America, served in restaurants and sold in grocery stores is safe.
