Keep up with Global Education over the summer!

Yes, it's almost summer, so in this issue of GlobalEdNews we are sharing some fun and simple activities to keep up with global education!
  • Peace Corps Connect - Minneapolis 2012:  Meet up with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and learn how you can tap into the resources of this vibrant community (while having some fun!) from June 29 - July 1.  Learn more and register here.
  • Expos:  Our four upcoming Expos are all focused on global education!  Each one of these free events will highlight resources and stories you can bring into your classroom.  See below for details or visit our website.
  • Summer Reading:  As always, our summer newsletter features recommended summer reading.  Email Susan Neyer, editor, by June 8 at susanneyer@astound.net to share your favorite "global" book(s).  Then enjoy your reading when the list is revealed in the newsletter coming out in June.
  • Newsletter:  speaking of the newsletter, if you have stories to share, resources to review, favorite lesson plans or tips for the classroom, please contact our editor, Susan Neyer at the email address above by May 29.  (Final deadline for submissions:  June 21)

Thank you for all that you do to bring the world into classrooms and communities.

Peace,

No more procrastinating!  Register for Peace Corps Connect - Minneapolis 2012

Maybe you've met Peace Corps people online via social networking but not in real life.  Perhaps you want to see first hand what makes Peace Corps people so unique - and so fun and instructive to have your students interact with in the classroom.  Now it's time to gather and find out!

Savvy career advice.  Thought-provoking panelists.  Job networking.  Exhibit hall. RPCV Graduate Research Conference.  Fresh ideas. Fun.

Can only attend for one day?  That's okay, too.  Just register early to reserve your spot.  If you are coming from out of town, check out the Peace Corps community couchsurfing network for places to stay in Minneapolis.

Peace Corps Third Goal Expos Focus on Global Education

NPCA and Peace Corps are kicking off the next 50 years of Peace Corps by focusing on the "third goal" of Peace Corps:  bringing the world back home.  One way we are doing this is through a series of four Third Goal Expos - events open to the Peace Corps community and the general public, but with a special focus on resources for educators.  These expos will showcase the countries and cultures where Peace Corps Volunteers have served and highlight Volunteers' experiences and projects.  The Expos will feature Peace Corps' Speakers Match, Correspondence Match, and Coverdell World Wise Schools programs and showcase ways that educators and returned Volunteers can share Peace Corps experiences in classrooms and communities.

These are a great - and fun! - way to start out your summer!
You'll find regularly updated details on the program and link to register (for free!) from these links.  See the items below for more information on the first two.
All expos are free and open to the public.  We may still have some room for presenters and exhibitors, so if you are interested, please contact Anne Baker at anne@peacecorpsconnect.org.  See you there!
