Hire an RPCV: NPCA Launches Online Job Site The National Peace Corps Association has just launched a public job site -- jobs.peacecorpsconnect.org -- specifically for the Peace Corps community and those looking to recruit Returned Peace Corps Volunteers for positions. For a limited time, employers can post their jobs to the site for free. RPCVs can also post their resumes so that they will be seen by employers looking for the unique skills that RPCVs possess. National Day of Action: Two Weeks Away!
Two weeks from today -- on Thursday, March 1st -- we are asking all advocates for a strong, vibrant and respected Peace Corps to make plans to burn up the Capitol Hill phone lines, crank out the electronic messages to lawmakers, and reach out to other supporters as we mobilize for our 8th Annual National Day of Action. More than 50 advocates are scheduled to be with us on Capitol Hill that day. Read about one of our former interns-turned-RPCV who will be among the participants. You don't have to be in Washington to make a difference on the Day of Action. In fact, we are counting on everyone to take just a few minutes to send thousands of constituent messages from all around the country to bring forth a collective voice in support of strong Peace Corps funding and final passage of Peace Corps Commemorative legislation. If you can offer up more than a few minutes assistance, check out our "Things You Can Do From Home" document which is located on our State Resources page. When March 1st rolls around, plan to visit our website for specific instructions on how to take action on that day.

E-News Mini-Survey Results Last month we wanted to find out a bit more about our community and volunteering.
As in previous surveys, the respondents were overwhelmingly RPCVs (92%), with the remainder evenly divided between Peace Corps Volunteers, Peace Corps Staff and "other." Not surprising to us, 62.8% said there was a "high likelihood" of volunteering upon their return to the States. Also not surprising: RPCVs give back to their home communities in a big way. Over 82% volunteer locally and 32.6% would be likely to volunteer again overseas. Thanks to all who participated! |
Name the "Annual Gathering" We're extending the Annual Gathering naming competition by one week until Friday, February 24. Submit your name here. Keep the names coming! We've gotten some great submissions. Thank you to everyone who has submitted thus far. |
ISO Peace Corps Volunteers
The Goal: Find every Peace Corps Volunteer and Staff Member. All 250K of them. NPCA added over 3,900 individuals to the community during the 50th Anniversary year and many of our member groups now have incredible lists. To carry this momentum forward, the NPCA would like to identify an additional 10,000 RPCVs by September 22, 2012 and have all RPCVs identified by 2016. Read more about our Find the 250K effort in these recent National Journal and Albany Times-Union articles. Then click the link below to fill out a form and be counted. Pass it on to your Peace Corps friends. |
Hospitality Network and "Couchsurfing" in One Place When has someone ever told you that tripping was a good idea? Well, now, it is! The National Peace Corps Association has partnered with Tripping.com to bring our members a custom, modern, online hospitality network. Tripping is a social travel site that connects travelers with local people for insider travel tips, shared cups of coffee and homestays in over 175 countries.

12 Reasons to Date an RPCV It was the blog post that blew the doors off our website traffic. On Tuesday morning, Valentine's Day, the NPCA posted a little tongue-in-cheek piece on our blog about why it's great to date a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, and then re-posted it to Facebook.
Well, we're pleased to say, it went completely viral. Clearly we tapped into something! In case you missed it, check out the post. And if you read it early in the day when it was first published, go back for the over 70 comments (and counting) that have been made since then. |
Have Your Say: Play a Role in NPCA Governance The NPCA is governed by a 20-member Board of Directors with staggered three-year terms. Half of those seats are directly elected by NPCA members to represent regions of Peace Corps service and U.S. geographic areas. Up for election this year are representatives of the following regions: Europe, North and East Africa; Northeast; MidAtlantic/Nationwide; and Upper Midwest (one-year term). Consider working for your NPCA community through Board service. Nominations are open through March 2. |

SEAVEES AND J.CREW HONOR THE PEACE CORPS

The 09/61 Volunteer Plimsoll was inspired by the September 1961 passage of the Peace Corps Act. SeaVees celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps by recreating a style from our early sixties origin. Through an exclusive partnership with the National Peace Corps Association, SeaVees will make a donation for each pair sold to a planned Peace Corps commemorative in Washington, D.C. This new release can only be found at SeaVees. SeaVees is proud to partner with the NPCA and support the ideals of the Peace Corps.
