We're Moving!

Our lease is up, but we're not moving far. On January 24 we'll be moving upstairs in our current building. Our new address will be: National Peace Corps Association, 1900 L Street N.W., Suite 610, Washington, DC  20036. The only thing that is changing is our suite number; our phone numbers and email addresses remain the same.

Due to the move, we will be off-line on Tuesday.  Thank you in advance for your patience.

E-News Mini-Survey: Volunteering

Last month we asked you about "green" products.  We learned that our readers (92% RPCV) usually buy "green" and that cost is the determining factor with "green" purchases.

This month, we'd like to know how you feel about volunteering. Take our mini-survey to help us know you better!

Project 250K

The Goal: Find every Peace Corps Volunteer and Staff Member.

Imagine a world where the universe of 250,000+ RPCVs and staff members is located in one place and where listings like the old paper directory can be easily searched online. We can do this with your help!

NPCA added over 3,900 individuals to the community over the 50th Anniversary year and many of our member groups now have incredible lists. To carry this momentum forward, the NPCA would like to identify an additional 10,000 RPCVs by September 22, 2012 and have all RPCVs identified by 2016. (Read the NPR story.)

Hospitality Net 2.0: NPCA Partners with Tripping.com

The National Peace Corps Association is pleased to announce a new partnership with Tripping.com to bring our members a modern, online hospitality network. (Many of you may remember NPCA's old HosNet, a paper directory compiled and maintained for many years by New Mexico Peace Corps Association leader Alan Burrus.)

This complementary site aligns with the Peace Corps goals of valuing friendships and learning about different cultures and experiences. Tripping is a social travel site that connects travelers with local people for tips, shared cups of coffee and homestays in over 175 countries. By providing a safe and easy way for travelers to engage in cultural exchange, Tripping can transform a simple vacation into a meaningful, life-changing experience. Be a host, or contact a host.

Encore Volunteers Arrive in Kenya

Two Encore volunteers arrived in Nairobi today on their way to their service at Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya. Ruth Shiers (RPCV Tanzania 1962-1964) and Ruth Brink (following on her Encore service there last year) will spend three-and-a-half months as nurse educators at the School of Nursing. The program, funded by Johnson & Johnson, is part of a multi-year effort to strengthen nursing in Kenya. Watch for reports from Ruth and Ruth on our blog.

A Memorable 50th Weekend for Friends of Guatemala

Yes, the 50th anniversary is over, but we still have some great stories of group events to share. This one is from the Friends of Guatemala, which describes a reception with the Guatemalan Ambassador and a service day spent collecting and processing bicycles to be sent to Guatemala. Have a story about your RPCV event to share? Send it to news@peacecorpsconnect.org

SEAVEES AND J.CREW HONOR THE PEACE CORPS

09/61 Volunteer Plimsoll
The 09/61 Volunteer Plimsoll was inspired by the September 1961 passage of the Peace Corps Act. SeaVees celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps by recreating a style from our early sixties origin. Through an exclusive partnership with the National Peace Corps Association, SeaVees will make a donation for each pair sold to a planned Peace Corps commemorative in Washington, D.C. This new release can only be found SeaVees. SeaVees is proud to partner with the NPCA and support the ideals of the Peace Corps.
