Global Education this Summer
The commemorations of the 50th anniversary of Peace Corps are well under way and will continue through September 2011, offering an extra incentive to talk about Peace Corps in classrooms and communities. Revised 2011 Teachers' Guide to International Collaboration on the Internet Now Available to Educators: "Exchange 2.0 Technology-Enabled International Interaction"
Posted by request:
American political, educational and business leaders agree that US students, regardless of their career path, need to be globally competent if they are to succeed in the 21st century. One of the key tools available to educators who would like to internationalize their classrooms is the newly revised guide for teachers: "Exchange 2.0 Technology-Enabled International Interaction." This guide was originally developed for the US Department of Education and is now hosted by the Connect All Schools initiative.
The new "Exchange 2.0" guide provides tutorials, tips, on-line and print resources, as well as specific curriculum-based projects in which K-12 U.S. teachers can participate and establish school-to-school global interaction on the Internet. Examples are provided across the entire curriculum, from science and creative arts projects to interaction in World Languages.
iEARN-USA Director Dr. Edwin Gragert, points out "Through the Internet and other technologies, students and teachers have the opportunity to engage directly with students in other countries, learning and sharing through direct interaction, enabling them to gain knowledge about and the ability to work with other cultures. These are important 21st century skills. The newly revised "Exchange 2.0" guide for US educators gives specific suggestions for making this possible in classrooms across the country.
The "Exchange 2.0" guide was produced by a team assembled by iEARN-USA. Connect All Schools is an initiative launched in 2011 by a consortium of 100 organizations engaged in physical youth and teacher exchanges, online interaction, global issues curricula, video-conferencing, World Languages, and many other activities to enhance global education in the US.
