Survey
Did you take the NPCA Survey?

Close to 10,000 Returned Peace Corps Volunteers already have taken the first-of-its-kind survey that NPCA is conducting with Hart Research Associates to gauge how RPCVs view their experience.

If you did NOT receive this important survey, it means that you either are not in the National Peace Corps Association membership database or your email address is not valid.

Please take a moment now to update your contact information and either become a member or renew your membership. Even though you receive this monthly electronic newsletter, it does not mean that you are a National Peace Corps Association member.

This survey is for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers only. You can take the survey here (Please note it can take anywhere from 20-70 minutes depending on how you answer the questions, so leave ample time.) Thank you to all of you who have already responded! We look forward to sharing the results with you this fall during the 50th Anniversary celebrations in Washington, DC. All of the results will be published this year.

Peace Corps Takes Funding Cuts, as Budget Challenges Mount

Even though a federal government shutdown was avoided earlier this month, the negotiated agreement cuts Peace Corps funding by almost $26 million for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2011. The reduction amounts to about 6.5% of total Peace Corps funding, with six months remaining in the fiscal year.

Indications point to an even bigger budget battle as Congress turns its attention to the Fiscal Year 2012 budget. Thanks to the many advocates who weighed in to support RPCV Congressman Sam Farr's Dear Colleague letter urging support for President Obama's $440 million Peace Corps request. NPCA also submitted written testimony to the House Appropriations Subcommittee for State and Foreign Operations in support of the President's Peace Corps request.

Win Awards for Your Ideas and Initiatives to Bring the World Home

"When I was in the Peace Corps, I had this great idea...."

What was your big idea? Now is your chance to share it with the Peace Corps community -- and through one of the National Peace Corps Association's competitions you could win cash, recognition in front of world leaders, get published in WorldView magazine, and win a free ticket to the 50th Anniversary Gala to be held this September.

As part of NPCA's commitment to the "bringing the world home" goal of the Peace Corps, it is highlighting exemplary RPCVs and ideas that will make an impact on the world. These ideas come from the immersion experience in the developing world that is unique to Peace Corps Volunteers. Volunteers have learned what it takes at the ground level to improve people's lives, transfer knowledge and understand cultural differences.

PC Uganda Day of Service
Peace Corps Uganda Day of Service 50th Anniversary Event

Although the March 1 milestone of Peace Corps' 50th anniversary year is behind us, celebrations are continuing both here in the U.S. and abroad. (See the official NPCA /Peace Corps calendar.) Nicole Fiol, a current Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV) who is also part of the NPCA Serving Volunteer Advisory Council and a former NPCA advocacy intern, was excited to share with us what PCVs worked on in Lweza, Uganda during a Day of Service event commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Peace Corps. She sent us this account by fellow Volunteer David Harrison (Economic Development, Uganda 09-11)...

RPCV MENTORING

Mentoring Fish Logo

Sometimes the hardest thing about Peace Corps is adjusting to life back home. It can feel like being a fish out of water.

That's why the NPCA, in conjunction with the Peace Corps, created this unique program to help returning Volunteers link up with RPCV mentors.

For more information or to apply for the program, visit RPCVMentoring.org.
