Greetings!
Have you watched our recent videos? Have you signed a petition to support education for all?
Congratulations as many weighed in on Congressman Sam Farr's recent Dear Colleague letter on Peace Corps funding.
A new action as well, focusing on new Peace Corps volunteers and the nation's leading phone companies.
It's all here in our December monthly update.

Peace Corps Funding for Current Fiscal Year Still in Limbo
A final decision on federal funding for the current fiscal year - Fiscal Year 2011 - remains undetermined. Last week Congress passed a "continuing resolution" that continues to fund federal programs through December 18th - including the Peace Corps - at last year's levels. This decision means Congress will return to the issue in the coming days to take further action. Follow this link to read more about the deliberations around federal spending for the current fiscal year.
As the FY 11 budget continues to be uncertain, just over 100 members of the House of Representatives - led by RPCV Congressman Sam Farr - have taken initial action in support of strong Peace Corps funding for Fiscal Year 2012.

NPCA Asks Qwest, AT&T to Follow Verizon's Lead in Supporting New PCVs
Like other forms of service overseas, Peace Corps volunteers make a major commitment to serve their country with a great deal of sacrifice. One of the nation's phone companies is recognizing that service to our country. You can take action to ask two other major providers to do the same.

Global Campaign for Education's Petition to Make Education a Development Goal
Even though there are 72 million children worldwide who do not have access to basic education, President Obama's recently released Global Development Strategy does not include education as a development priority. The Global Campaign for Education created a petition through which concerned advocates can urge the President to include education in the development strategy.

Next Visits: Albany, Providence and the Big Apple!
The gas is in the car and the GPS is activated! Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (featured here) was our last stop back in October to connect with member groups of the National Peace Corps Association. This week, we travel a little further north to connect with three other groups.
It begins on Tuesday December 7th, when advocacy coordinator Jonathan Pearson attends the monthly meeting of the RPCVs of Northeastern New York for a discussion on plans for the upcoming 50th anniversary. The 50th will also be a topic of discussion at a December 8th dinner gathering in Providence with members of the Rhode Island RPCVs. The week will close out with a December 10th stop at a holiday gathering hosted by the RPCVs of Greater New York. Contact us at advocacy@peacecorpsconnect.org for more details.

Advocacy Will Be a Focus of Next WorldView Magazine
"I LOVE WorldView magazine." That's a comment we often hear when meeting members of the Peace Corps community. The upcoming Winter issue will be of particular interest to our advocates as it will feature a section devoted to advocacy.
Articles from RPCV Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA), Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY) and Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) are among the features that will be included.
Not getting WorldView? That means you must not be a member. Our quarterly magazine is one of the benefits you receive when joining the NPCA.

Featured Advocate: Chris Dodd - East Haddam, CT
This section of our monthly update is normally devoted to grassroots advocates from around the country who make the case - either as volunteers or in a professional capacity - in support of critical issues that have global implications, including and especially support for a bigger, better and bolder Peace Corps.
While many of our advocates are engaged in actions related to their members of Congress, we decided this time to highlight a member of Congress.
For 36 years, Senator Chris Dodd (Dominican Republic 66-68) has represented the state of Connecticut, first as a member of the House of Representatives, followed by five terms in the U.S. Senate.
Dodd who is retiring, was honored by the National Peace Corps Association earlier this year. On November 30th, he was honored by his colleagues as he give his farewell address.
