Spring WorldView Lesson Plan: Food and Us 


WV spring 10 coverThe Spring 2010 issue of WorldView magazine is now out, focusing on agriculture and food security. This issue's lesson plan, Food and Us: Gardening Locally and Globally by Angene Wilson is based on the articles Food Sovereignty by Kyle Freund and It Takes a Community to Raise a Garden by JoAnna Haugen, which are available in their entirety here. The lesson emphasizes the importance of gardening on both local and global levels and encourages students to become involved in local agriculture.

2010 FPA Teacher Training Institute

The Foreign Policy Association (FPA) will host its sixth annual Great Decisions Teacher Training Institute from June 30th - July 2nd in New York City.The 2010 Institute will focus on some of the critical challenges to U.S. foreign policymakers, using the Great Decisions 2010 topics:

  • The Persian Gulf

  • Russia and its neighbors

  • Global Financial Crisis

  • Special envoys in U.S. diplomacy

  • Global Crime

Teachers will be introduced to Great Decisions materials, learn how to integrate the program into the class curriculum, and hear from experts on the Great Decisions 2010 topics including

Maria Bartiromo, CNBC anchor; host and managing editor, "Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo",The Honorable John Parisella, Delegate General of Québec in New York City,and Mark Galeotti, New York University's Center for Global Affairs

Asia Society Partnership for Global Learning Conference

The Asia Society Partnership for Global Learning is a national network of K-12 educators and policymakers dedicated to sharing best practices and advancing public policy to integrate global knowledge and skills within the mainstream of American education.  The Partnership's annual conference, "Creating Success in a Global Era: A World-Class" will take place in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area from July 8-10, 2010.

Global Citizen Corps Seeking Applicants

Global Citizen Corps is an international youth leadership program that brings students together to make a difference. Over one year, Leaders work with Mercy Corps staff to get the training and tools to raise awareness and organize effective local actions that make a global impact.

 

Global Citizen Corps is free, it's fun and gives you the skills to make a difference! Be an inspiration. Real change happens one person at a time.
