Global TeachNet and the Millennium Development Goals
We're pleased to announce the addition of a new section of our GlobalEd Gateway: a collection of educational resources for teaching about the Millennium Development Goals. You can view this page via the GlobalEd Gateway or by going to www.peacecorpsconnect.org/millenniumdevelopmentgoals.
Here you can access a wide variety of lesson plans, books, fact sheets, games, and other media that introduce and monitor the MDGs, as well as resources that focus specifically on each goal.
Many thanks to Joanne Dufour for sharing these resources with us, which she compiled for her presentation The Millennium Development Goals: A Report Card for the World at the 2009 NCSS Annual Conference. If you have other educational resources on the MDGs that you would like to share, please email them to gtnintern@peacecorpsconnect.org.

Project Peace Pal Film Premiere
Project PeacePal will be presenting the world premiere of Stealing the Light, a documentary film
about the destruction of a peaceful school in war-torn Afghanistan by filmmaker Aimie Burns, on April 9th
at the KiMo Theater in Albuquerque,
New Mexico.
Project PeacePal is an international peace through education pen pal
organization that strives to create the next generation of leaders and peace
builders through international friendships and the application of
peace-building skills in daily life.
Founded in 2007 in order to build a way for young people around the world to
experience each others' cultures based on friendship, PeacePal's
standards-based curriculum and activities are used in classrooms and provide
students throughout the world a way to learn about life in far-away places,
develop respect for other cultures and religions, and new solutions for
creating a more peaceful world.

2010 Summer Course from Primary Source
Posted by Request:
Teaching
for Global Understanding in the 21st Century
Educators are increasingly aware that the challenges of our changing world will
require students to think and learn in new ways. In addition to teaching core
academic content, our schools need to cultivate key skills: global awareness,
critical thinking, media literacy, collaboration, intercultural communication,
technological ability, and civic engagement. Primary Source's summer course
will explore the importance of such skills and will build a case for
re-envisioning how we prepare students for an interconnected world.
Participants will examine the global economy, the environment, health, social
justice, education, and the globalization of culture. Interested participants
should be willing to take on a leadership role in their districts and to be
advocates for global education across disciplines and grade levels.
Institute Dates: July 26-30, 2010
Location: Boston College
Registration deadline: April 16, 2010
Fee: $500
Open to all K-12 educators
Visit www.primarysource.org/globaledsummer
