Global TeachNet: 2009 Impact
This has been a terrific year for Global TeachNet. Many thanks for your work and for your
support in 2009. I hope you've enjoyed
the updates to date. In this week's
e-newsletter we will share some comments from the community to show what an
impact your commitment and generosity make for Global TeachNet.
"I remain
appreciative of and indebted to Global TeachNet, using it extensively when
I returned from Peace Corps / Turkmenistan
and, later, when teaching in Arkansas.
The listserv introduced many great ideas and pointed me towards wonderful
opportunities..." -Ben Dunbar, RPCV Turkmenistan (1998-2000)
Throughout
the year we hear from Return Peace Corps Volunteers and members of the global education
community. Your feedback demonstrates
that Global TeachNet provides inspiration for bringing a global perspective to
classrooms and communities.
"I'm so impressed with the educational resources made
available!!! My husband and I have been in Kenya frequently and have worked in
Water Development there with several Peace Corps folks. YOU ARE THE
BEST!!!!" Diane Reimers
Our work would not be as dynamic without your guidance,
financial support and input. Our work is
dedicated to you, but also could not happen without you. I know that many
of you give daily to your schools by enhancing teaching materials and
extracurricular activities. I also know
that this has been a financially challenging year. I ask that you reflect on how much
you use Global TeachNet and consider a holiday donation to support one of your global
education resources. Please make an investment in Global TeachNet with an
online gift or mail us a check to the address listed below. I am looking
forward to a dynamic year in 2010.
Happy holidays and New Year!
Peace, Anne Baker

NPCA Highlights Global Education in 2009
In 2009, NPCA's Global TeachNet continued to make strides in its mission to connect, inform, and engage educators throughout the world. Some of the year's highlights include:
- Launch of the new Global Connections program in partnership with The Globalist, providing fresh perspectives on current world issues weekly for teachers to infuse into lessons to help improve the "global literacy" of their students.
- Exhibition at the International Studies Schools Association conference in January and co-coordination of the International Alley group of exhibitors at the National Council for the Social Studies annual conference in November.
- Expansion of Global TeachNet's online presence, including the creation of a Global TeachNet group where educators can network and share ideas online, as well as further development of the Global Gateway collection of resources for educators.
- Receipt of the 1st annual electronic only outstanding acheivement in publications award at the ASCD annual conference in March for the GlobalEd News, of which there have been 23 issues this year (and more to come!).
