Global Connections is Underway

The recently launched Global Connections
program, a new partnership between the NPCA and online magazine The Globalist,
is currently underway. This is a unique opportunity to help foster the
intercultural competence that students need to be able to thrive in this
current era of globalization. Features of Global Connections include: - Engaging content that can be quickly and easily used to enhance lesson plans
- Questions regarding current issues designed to stimulate discussion
- Online resources that help further students' understanding of the scope of globalization
Participation in this program includes a free

Course Offering: Cultivating Global Citizenship

Do you know a good educator who wants to become a great educator?
The next session of Tanenbaum's intensive professional development course, Cultivating Global Citizenship, starts this October.
Don't miss this New York City Department of Education-approved course, currently available at a reduced price for a limited number of educators. Course details follow:
- When: Five Saturdays 9:00AM to 4:00PM: October 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and November 7th, 2009
- Where: Tanenbaum, 254 W. 31st St., 7th floor, New York, NY 10001
- Who: Primary and secondary school teachers from public and/or private schools, curriculum developers and after school and summer enrichment educational directors.
- What: Assess the state of multicultural education in your classroom, adapt your curricula to establish an inclusive classroom environment and prepare students to participate in a diverse and fragmented society. Learn how to integrate diversity education, including religious diversity, into your class and standard curricula.

Service Learning Unit on Conservation and Snow Leopards

Facing the Future, in collaboration with the Snow Leopard Trust, has just released Engaging Students in Conservation: Protecting the Endangered Snow Leopard, an interdisciplinary 1-2 week unit that includes five dynamic lessons and culminates with a service learning project. The unit is designed for 5-8th grade students in science and social studies. Though the lessons are designed as a comprehensive unit, each lesson can stand alone. These lessons were developed and piloted by teachers and conservation experts including the Snow Leopard Trust, the world's leading authority on the study and protection of the endangered snow leopard. This unit, valued at $14.95, is available for FREE download here. |

an event-in-a-box toolkit from the Stanley Foundation. The featured video in
the toolkit helps viewers explore the rise of three countries-Brazil, China,
and India-in
a new global reality. Our aim is to encourage discussion of several of the
countries challenging the global order, some of the major issues that cut
across national boundaries, and how all of this will impact American lives.
With event planner and moderator guides chock-full of
helpful tips and resources, the toolkit has everything needed to put together a
successful event. Discussion guides are provided to facilitate group discussion
on the issues raised in the video. Also, the toolkit includes materials that
provide further background on the discussion topics.
