"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time."
- John Lubbock
Jen Louden, author of the "The Comfort Queen" and so much more, recently wrote some lines that really resonate with me: "what we know, deep down, is that creative joy is the fuel we need to do all those other things in a way that makes us feel alive, and makes everyone around us feel loved, inspired and nourished.
Have you made time for your creative joy, lately?"
I have been making time every day to exercise, which is good for me, yet it is not easy to take that time.
It feels like it takes away from my 'productive' work time, and reduces the already rare chances of finding time to be quietly reflective, which I really need and enjoy. Then again, as I become physically stronger I also become more mentally focused. My team sees me as calmer and more confident, which are both really good things. So maybe it IS reducing time spent in those other areas, and maybe that is really just fine.
We have many members of our customer family who come in for a quiet break. They are with themselves (notice I did not say 'by themselves'. To say I was by myself sounds woeful; I would rather be with myself. After all, I'm fun to be with!) and they come to enjoy a favorite coffee drink and a meal, or a snack. I can see their faces relax; they are refueling their spirits.
It is truly a gift and an honor, that we are a part of that special moment for each of them. I love my job!
What do you do to make time for your creative joy? What do you do that is just for you? Do you find it difficult to schedule your self-time in? With Summer weather here I challenge you to treat your self to some quality time each day. Just try it for July and August, maybe 30 minutes a day, just for you. Let me know what happens!
We can't wait to see you here!
~Monica
