This December marks our 4th holiday season since we opened our version of the cafe in May of 2006. We have come a very long way, made a few mistakes and yet have done so many things right! Mark and I are still happier than ever and still tired, and loving every day that we get to spend with our team and with all of you.
The question we have been asked the most lately, in light of the economy, is 'how is business'? It is true that the cost of goods are way up and sales are down, so I have been answering honestly: we are struggling, and yet we remain positive because I know we are doing better than so many others.
We are blessed with a great family of customers and a wonderful team, and we intend to hang on with everything we have to get through this icky economy.
Of course we need your help and I have been busy coming up with some ideas to 'stimulate' our own economy here at the cafe. These are things that I hope you like and I believe they will benefit everyone who takes advantage of them! One of my favorites is this:
During December, for every $25 that you purchase in Monica's gift cards, you will get an additional $5 gift card to use as you please.
You can add it to your gift(s) or add it to your own card. If you get $100 in gift certificates you get $25 in more gift certificates!
Stay tuned for the next newsletter when I will reveal a couple more ideas, much bigger than that one, that I think you are going to love!!

Our 'No Peeking' Red Envelopes are BACK!
This is our gift to you!
Each time you make a purchase in the month of December you will get to take a Red Envelope home.
But there's NO PEEKING!
Each time you visit us in January you bring in one of your envelopes and open it in front of us to see which prize you won.
Will it be a cup of coffee? A cookie? A dessert?
or will it be a $50 gift certificate?
or A meal, once a month, all year long??
It will definitely be one of those things and we cannot wait to see what you won!

You may be thinking 'how can I help?'
Here is one small way:
This time of year shopping is more on our minds than ever, and of course so is our money. The best way that I can think of for each of us to help out our own community is to Think Local First!
Try the new 'FreshLocal' store in Bremerton
540 4 ST, Fresh, local food, all year long!
Every time you choose to shop at a locally owned, independent business:
*You choose to help your neighbors stay in business and even prosper!
*You choose to keep $.68 on every dollar spent circulating within your local community; far more than when we shop at national chains and online.
*You choose to help maintain more jobs, better working conditions and better pay for our local workers; not to mention a better, more intimate shopping experience for yourself!
*You choose to help keep demand up and therefore prices down on local goods and services
*You choose to invest in your own community
Now I know we cannot find everything we need in our local shops and services. However, if we Think Local First each time we need something, and make an effort to shop this way, we will make a huge difference. Here is what you do:
Pick 3 locally owned shops or services that you would miss if they disappeared. Make them your first choice every time! Pick up what you need from those places and encourage everyone you know to do the same.
Start this trend and save our local economy!
