Howell Speaks at ACT Expo

KCFC Executive Director Melissa Howell spoke at the Alternative Clean Transportation Expo in Long Beach, CA on Friday May 6. She discussed the Hybrid Horsepower for Kentucky Schools program, which is bringing the largest fleet of hybrid electric school buses in the nation to Kentucky school districts.

Green Fleets of the Bluegrass

Green Fleets of the Bluegrass is a recognition program hosted by the Kentucky Clean Fuels Coalition. Participants will be evaluated based on seven criteria: vehicles, fuel, maintenance, operation, partnerships, strategy, and transparency. Improving fleets show progress in four of the criteria, Achieving fleets show progress in all seven, and Leading fleets show continuous progress in all seven areas.

KCFC members who submit their baseline data by June 30, 2011 will receive recommendations for initiatives to potentially improve year-end ratings.

Flex Fuel Pump Funding Assistance Reminder

U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has invited agricultural producers and rural small businesses to apply for loans and grants to implement renewable energy systems including flexible fuel pumps and make energy efficiency improvements. USDA is providing funding for up to $61 million in guaranteed loans and $42 million in grants through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). The deadlines for submitting completed REAP applications are June 15 and June 30, depending on the type of project to be funded. The Kentucky Corn Growers Association is also providing funding assistance for flexible fuel pumps installed within the state.

Electric Vehicle Funding Reminder

The Clean Cities Community Readiness and Planning for Plug-in Electric Vehicles and Charging Infrastructure Funding Opportunity Announcement is now available on FedConnect.

President Obama has a goal of putting 1 million plug-in electric vehicles on the road and developing EV infrastructure in the U.S. by 2015 in an effort to decrease the nation’s dependence on petroleum and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The deadline to submit an application is June 13, 2011. There are several requirements for submitting an application, so applicants should begin the process as soon as possible.
