UPS Installs Biodiesel Tanks for Ground Support Equipment

UPS installed two biodiesel storage tanks on the Worldport property in Louisville, on Monday, April 11. The installation was part of UPS’s goal to reduce their carbon footprint 20% by 2020. Bill Jacob, Vice President of Air Group Ground Support Equipment and Jaime Vincent of the Kentucky Soybean Association were on hand to talk with the media.

The 30,000 and 5,000 gallon tanks will enable UPS to provide biodiesel usage in ground support equipment.

Hybrid Electric School Buses Take to the Road in Warren and Todd Counties

On April 11, 2011 Warren County joined the ranks of school districts to have received hybrid electric school buses. Bill Glisson of Whayne Supply handed over the keys for four new hybrid buses to Superintendent Tim Murley on Monday. The ceremony was held in Bowling Green, KY.

Bill Glisson of Whayne presents the key to Jay WIlson, Energy Manager, Johnny Watkins, Asst Trans Director of WCPS, and Supt Murley.

“We’re excited about getting the hybrid buses, it will be more energy efficient. In Warren County we have put many things in place to conserve energy with our buildings and with our energy education. This is one more initiative to help conserve energy and protect the environment,” says Superintendent Murley.

Todd County received one hybrid electric school bus on April 6.

The Hybrid Horsepower for Kentucky Schools program is a collaborative effort between the Kentucky Clean Fuels Coalition (KCFC) and the Kentucky Department of Education. Performance data for these hybrid electric school buses will be gathered by KCFC.

“Early performance data shows remarkable results in hybrid buses across Kentucky,” says Melissa M. Howell, Executive Director of KCFC. “Soon we will be working directly with teachers and students to further detail operations of the systems,” adds Howell.
