Greetings!
After a beautiful, warm summer, here we are suddenly with a hint of fall in the air, school buses ready to roll again, and schedules changing from those lazy, hazy days to the crisp, action packed events of  fall.

Summer saw downtown Biddeford alive with vacationers and residents alike. The Art Walk events which were initiated last spring have become a successful monthly attraction. Biddeford is growing and evolving as an interesting and delightful place to be, and we are thrilled to continue to be a part of that growth.

The month of September will find me traveling to far away places, more of which you can read later in this newsletter. But the shop will continue to be ready for your needs and shopping pleasure with Patricia of Cellar Door, Shirley of Gallery 265, and the addition of my daughter Christy to help out in my place.

So settle in with your choice of tea, perhaps ready to switch from an iced Moroccan Mint to a hot Cranberry Autumn or Cinnamon Spice, as you catch up on the latest news from Nellie's.

Enjoy! Marianne

While I'm away...
Newest tea drinker says "yum"!

When you visit the shop on Saturdays during the month of September, you will be greeted by a perky and friendly, very attractive young woman. This will not be me after cosmetic surgery, hair enhancement, and trip to the fountain of youth! No. Rather than me after an extreme makeover, you will be meeting my daughter, Christy McKinney. She will be here to help you with your tea questions and any other assistance you might need. If she cannot answer your question, she will be sure to convey it to me so that we can get back to you.
I have tried to leave the shop well stocked with the most popular items, but am also looking forward to adding new items upon my return. So please stay tuned.
My grandson recently wanted to try "granmamama's" cup of tea. He liked it! So we may have a future tea afficiando in the making.
All the Tea in China
Here I come...
For a year and a half I have been planning a trip to China...and it appears that it really is going to happen. In just a few days I leave on a Tea Tour which will take me to Japan for three days... Tokyo to Kyoto and back... followed by a flight to Beijing, China where we will begin the journey of a lifetime...at least my lifetime. For three weeks we will travel to the most famous of the tea growing regions of China where we will experience tea from bush to cup. We will study with tea masters, calligraphy masters, visit a porcelain factory where we will make our own piece of porcelain, and have the opportunity to take in all that China has to offer.
I am so excited to be going on this journey to the birthplace of tea, and indeed so many of the products and inventions which we have taken for granted for centuries. With all of the recent controversy about practices in China regarding safety of their products, I am eager to see for myself what conditions are like in the growing regions of the teas we import. I anticipate that this trip will, for me, be a life changing event.

More details upon my return!

Chalk on the Walk AND Art Walk!

This year's Chalk on the Walk will take place on Saturday September 29th with a rain date of October 6th. This 3rd annual event will be more fun than ever, with activities taking place all over town. A fun day for the whole family, visit the Heart of Biddeford website at www.heartofbiddeford.org  for complete details. I will be back for this event, so I look forward to seeing you then!

Also during that same week, the next Art Walk will take place on Thursday September 27th from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. Look for the red balloons outside of participating venues. Gallery 265 will be featuring Sandy St. Clair as their Artisit of the Month. The depth and breadth of Sandy's talent is impressive. You will not want to miss the opportunity to meet this interesting and talented artist.
I look forward with enthusiasm to seeing all of you on my return. I wish you and your dear ones an incredible start to your autumn with many moments of delight and deliciousness.
Sincerely,
Marianne
