    Winter Weather Advisory

    Michael Spikes, Operations Manager

No, we have not gone into the weather prediction business. Instead, I am going to offer you some advice on taking care of your camera during the upcoming winter season. Winter is a big season for photography as holidays, snow and changing leaves all make for great photo opportunities.

    Advisory #1
When you are outside taking pictures and come indoors to warm up, let your camera do the same. Extreme changes in temperature can cause condensation to fog up your camera lens. You can help this by giving your camera a few minutes to adjust. You can also help with the excess moisture by placing a small pack of desiccant in your camera bag.

    Advisory #2
Snow is solid water. Water in its liquid state is obviously harmful to your camera. Snow will melt and when it does, it can seep into the crevices of your camera and can damage the electronics. You can buy a camera that is water resistant or take extra precautions when shooting in the snow by covering your camera while shooting. Additionally, if you are using an SLR type camera, take extra care if you decide to change lenses during snowfall. One snowflake inside your camera body or on your image sensor and you're done.

    Advisory #3
That tingling you feel isn't excitement - it's frostbite. You can take care of your camera all you want but if you don't take care of yourself first, it won't matter. Make sure you dress in layers and protect your extremities. Once you are bundled up, you can begin your quest for that perfect winter shot!
