Artistic Expressions of Native American Children
(Children's Gallery) May 7 - Aug 14.

Opening Reception: 6:30-7:00pm

The Blue Line Gallery's 3rd Saturday opening in May will celebrate an exhibit of American Indian children's artwork with special guests Tribal Chairman Mathew Franklin of the Miwok Indians and two-time Grammy winning musician, Mary Youngblood.

The exhibit showcases the colorful artwork of children, ages 5-12, from the American Indian Education Program in Sacramento.  Tribal Chairman Mathew Franklin from the Ione Band of Miwok Indians will join the young artists, their families and gallery visitors in a special welcoming ceremony, 6:30-7:00pm on the 15th.  Franklin and the American Indian Education Program help promote the mission "to empower Indian children to achieve a better way of life through self-integrity and honor."

Also in support of the young artists, Native American musician Mary Youngblood will perform during the evening reception.  Known as the "First Lady of the Flute," Youngblood is the first woman to professionally record the Native American Flute and the first woman to win not just one, but two Grammy Awards for "Best Native American Music Album."  She is half Seminole and half Aleut.

BRILLIANT EARTH

Artists Interpret Nature's Landscape

April 17 - June 12

The "Brilliant Earth" exhibit explores the beauty and complexity of the earth's landscapes through an exciting combination of visual media, from ancient geodes to contemporary video. It features the work of Granite Bay sculptor Judi Stickney, who works in a variety of stone as well as bronze, and Auburn sculptor Deanna Marsh, whose work includes metal and kiln-formed glass landscapes and landscape tapestries with glass beads and wire weaving. The featured photography pairs the work of David L. Robertson of Davis and Christopher Schiller from Redding, in thirteen combinations of color and black and white. Digital video projections by Chicago video artist and educator Kevin Evensen present glimpses of nature set to music.
