Celebrated Musician Mary Youngblood Performs

The Blue Line Gallery's 3rd Saturday opening in May will celebrate an exhibit of American Indian children's artwork with special guests Tribal Chairman Mathew Franklin of the Miwok Indians and two-time Grammy winning musician, Mary Youngblood.

"Empowering Our People: Artistic Expression of Native American Children" showcases the colorful artwork of children, ages 5-12, from the American Indian Education Program in Sacramento.  Tribal Chairman Mathew Franklin from the Ione Band of Miwok Indians will join the young artists, their families and gallery visitors in a special welcoming ceremony, 6:30-7:00pm on the 15th.  Franklin and the American Indian Education Program help promote the mission "to empower Indian children to achieve a better way of life through self-integrity and honor."

Also in support of the young artists, Native American musician Mary Youngblood will perform during the evening reception.  Known as the "First Lady of the Flute," Youngblood is the first woman to professionally record the Native American Flute and the first woman to win not just one, but two Grammy Awards for "Best Native American Music Album."  She is half Seminole and half Aleut.

GeologyThe Geologic Record:
Stories Captured in Stone
May 20, 7-8:30pm

Geologists Jan Jacobson and Terry James share their expert knowledge about the geologic material in the Brilliant Earth sculptures of Judi Stickney and Deanna Marsh. . . Learn about the placement of these ancient rock formations in time, some of our regional geologic features and Jan and Terry's perspective on geology. Jan and Terry co-own Jacobson James & Associates, an environmental consulting firm in Rocklin that provides contaminated site investigation and cleanup services to commercial client sites in the Western U.S. Our guest speakers appreciate the different perspectives that artists have on the world and their ability to translate those perspectives to a visual format for the rest of us to share. They are excited to support the Brilliant Earth exhibit and the Blue Line Gallery with this presentation.

Cost: $5 (members) and $15 (non-members)

May be purchased ahead of time at the Blue Line Gallery, over the phone 916-783-4117 or at the door on May 20th.
