Socks For Homeless:
This year goal is 6,000 pair of socks. |
Socks for homeless was started by Sgt. Newsom, SPD, several years ago. Last year the organization collected over 1800 new pair of socks with 1300 donated by the University Masonic Lodge. Other contributors include University Chamber, Shultzy's, JCPenney, Fred Meyer and Costco. This year our goal is to collect 6000 pair of socks to be donated to various charities. Seen in the photo is Sgt. Newsom and Bill Doell, University Chamber Director with the first several pair of donated socks & gloves. The Chamber needs the community assistances to help the University Masonic Lodge in achieving the goal of collecting 6000 pair of socks by December 15th, 2010. If you are interested in donating to this cause, please bring your donations to the Greater University
Chamber of Commerce.

15th Avenue NE Reconstruction Project
The 15th Avenue NE reconstruction project reached the major milestone of advertisement for construction bid last week. This project, the biggest single project yet in the BTG paving plan, includes the complete reconstruction of 15th Ave NE between NE Pacific and NE 50th streets and a resurfacing between NE 50th and 55th streets. The corridor, which hasn't seen any significant work since the 70's, is in significant need of repair. As an added bonus, the project included two additions including the continuation of the 22nd Avenue NE paving that was completed earlier this summer and N 34th Street between Stone Way N and Fremont Avenue N. The bid opening is October 20th and construction is planned to begin in January. If you have any questions about this project please contact Dawn Schellenberg from SDOT.
