Andrea Cohen Dear Members and Friends,
VBSR staff and Board are so excited about some upcoming spring events.  We hope you can join us in honoring Don Mayer, our 2011 Terry Ehrich honoree, on the Northern Lights Cruise on May 11, and at the fantastic spring conference we have lined up for May 12. Please don't wait to register so we can best plan.
The Legislative session is expected to wrap up soon, and despite some very difficult budget challenges we expect to see some good progress on health care reform, telecommunications infrastructure development and renewable energy--stay tuned and stay involved.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to complete the recent member survey--we are already making programmatic changes in response to the feedback we received.
Finally, if you are interested in supporting our Local First efforts, please consider supporting the 2011-2012 Local First resource book by buying an ad, a coupon, or by putting in an advance bulk order for purchasing books once they come out in September.
Best, Andrea

VBSR Public Policy Update
Vermont should really be proud of the Legislature this year.
Last week, the Senate Health and Welfare Committee voted 5-0 in support of health care reform. The committee, under the direction of Sen. Claire Ayer, spent weeks on the bill and took hours of testimony from doctors, business leaders and residents.
The committee vote was bi-partisan - making it clear that our lawmakers realize that the current health care system, which is tied to employment and doesn't cover all residents, is collapsing. It doesn't work for businesses and it doesn't work for employees. Read more...
