DU Women's College Seeks IT Projects
The Women's College of the University of Denver offers a professionally oriented bachelor's degree in Information Technology Studies. A key part of the program is for seniors to design and build an information system for a "real" customer. The projects begin in January and are completed in mid-May. Past projects for very satisfied local nonprofits have included:
- Developing an inventory management system for a home-based gift basket business
- Developing a customized database for a law firm to allow it to more efficiently track and manage its clients
- Designing and building a new web site for an arts organization that allows prospects and members to sign up for events, view calendars, and join the organization
- Identifying the requirements for a replacement patient management system for a non-profit doctor's practice
What the students can bring to your organization:
- A problem solving approach to helping scope, plan and develop a solution
- Considerable drive and motivation to providing help
- Mentoring and coaching from faculty at The Women's College
If selected, we expect from you:
- The ability to spend a few hours per week from January through May (evenings or daytime hours) to help scope and plan the project
- A willingness to provide some level of on-going participation to ensure that the project ultimately gives you what your organization needs
- We welcome the participation of your own resources so that when the students turn over the completed project, you can support it internally.
If you would like to participate, please tell us the following:
- Describe your business problem and technology needs
- The benefits you hope to realize from the solution
- Describe your organization, including its purpose, clientele and size
How do we participate? How does it work?
- Please provide TC Werner (werner@crcamerica.org) with the information outlined above by October 15.
- If short listed by the students, you may be asked to attend an brief meeting at the University of Denver (in November) to present your ideas and needs
- The students will select one or two projects in November and begin work in early January, for completion at the end of May.
- If selected, the first part of the project will be for you to work with your student "consultants" to agree the scope and deliverables of the project.
