UNITING BELIEVERS TO PRAY . . . DECEMBER 14, 2011
|
 |
PROTECTING THE TRADITIONS OF CHRISTMAS
| Pray for passage of this resolution in the House of Representatives by a strong majority vote. This is a Christian nation, and we are "one nation under God." This truth is reflected in our national pledge of allegiance.
"But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:10-11)
Rep. Doug Lamborn has introduced H.Res.489, which expresses the consensus of the House of Representatives that the symbols and traditions of Christmas should be protected for use by those who celebrate Christmas. During the Christmas season each year, there are increasing efforts to remove religious symbols and references from the holiday. This season, there have been challenges to public nativity scenes in Athens, TX; Prineville, OR; and Ellwood City, PA. Additionally, a cancer center in South Carolina banned all religious Christmas decorations, and the decorated tree in the Rhode Island statehouse is being called a "holiday tree" instead of a "Christmas tree." Rep. Lamborn's resolution emphasizes that the First Amendment does not support attempts to ban those who choose to celebrate the day from making religious references to Christmas. PLANS AGAINST "HOMEGROWN" EXTREMISTS
|
Pray for discernment and wisdom to be given to our Congressmen and Senators. Ask that our Constitution be adhered to, and the rights of every citizen be honored and enforced. Pray for "due process" for all issues under question, for criminals to be proven guilty beyond all reasonable doubt.
"No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me, declares the LORD." (Isaiah 54:17)
The Obama administration last Thursday released an implementation plan for intensified efforts to counter so-called "homegrown" violent extremism in the United States. The 20-page report is called the Strategic Implementation Plan for Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States. It describes specific steps to strengthen and expand cooperation with officials in communities across the country that might be targeted by violent extremists.
<Click here> to read the plan. Obama signed off on the overall national strategy to fight violent extremism last August.
The implementation plan comes six months after a broader National Strategy for Counterterrorism that discussed threats from al-Qaida followers, who are sometimes U.S. citizens engaged in terrorism, such as the 2009 shootings at the Fort Hood, Texas military base.
The implementation plan says countering violent extremism and terrorism inspired by al-Qaida, its affiliates and its adherents is a top priority. It notes that other forms of violent extremism will not be ignored, and mentions as an example the attacks in Norway in July, saying, "free societies face threats from a range of violent extremists." U.S. INTERNATIONAL HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA
| Pray that this presidential "unholy order" will be dismissed and seen as a dishonoring of God's Word. Pray that this unrighteous edict will be challenged at the Supreme Court and in the Congressional forums.
"What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil; that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter." (Isaiah 5:20 NLT)On December 6th at a conference in Geneva, Switzerland attended by diplomats from all over the world including Arab nations, Secretary Clinton compared the struggle for "gay equality" to women's rights and racial equality. She said that a nation's cultural or religious "traditions" are not an excuse for discrimination against homosexuals. "Gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights," she said. On the same day, in Washington, Obama has in effect ordered U.S. agencies to import homosexuals from all over the world who are "threatened." Thus anyone who walks into a U.S. embassy anywhere in the world where homosexual activities (including gay marriage) are illegal, can claim to be gay and be immediately put at the front of the line to immigrate to the United States. How, after all, could officials disprove a person's "gayness?" At the same time he has opened the gates to Islamic "refugees."
Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul addresses the sin of homosexuality in Romans 1.
Romans 1:18 - 19 and 26 - 27 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
Contrast the truth of God's Word in Romans 1 with the actions of this current edict and we have a very serious breach with God's desires for this nation's stand on righteousness. (Contributors: Capitol Hill Prayer Partners, Religious Freedom Coalition) Back to top |
CHINA'S HU URGES NAVY TO PREPARE FOR COMBAT
| Pray that the Lord puts restraints on China's naval power development. Pray for wisdom to prevail with China's military leadership. Ask the Lord to reveal to the fervent Chinese Christians the plans its government has and to pray accordingly.
"Do not be envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them; for their heart devises violence, and their lips talk of trouble-making." (Proverbs 24: 1,2)Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday urged the navy to prepare for military combat, amid growing regional tensions over maritime disputes and a U.S. campaign to assert itself as a Pacific power. The navy should "accelerate its transformation and modernization in a sturdy way, and make extended preparations for military combat in order to make greater contributions to safeguard national security," he said. Addressing the powerful Central Military Commission, Hu said: "Our work must closely encircle the main theme of national defense and military building." In a translation of Hu's comments, the official Xinhua news agency quoted the president as saying China's navy should "make extended preparations for warfare." His comments, which were posted in a statement on a government website, come as the United States and Beijing's neighbors have expressed concerns over its naval ambitions, particularly in the South China Sea. Several Asian nations have competing claims over parts of the South China Sea, believed to encompass huge oil and gas reserves, while China claims it all. One-third of global seaborne trade passes through the region. Vietnam and the Philippines have accused Chinese forces of increasing aggression there.
The Pentagon, however, downplayed Hu's speech, saying that Beijing had the right to develop its military, although it should do so transparently. . . State Department spokesman Mark Toner said: "We want to see stronger military-to-military ties with China and we want to see greater transparency. That helps answer questions we might have about Chinese intentions." (Contributor: AFP) Back to top |
FED RESERVE AUDIT: $16 TRILLION SECRET BAILOUT
| Pray that the Lord would direct our ways. Ask the Lord to rebuke these lies, distortions and schemes. Ask that the Lord would loose honesty, integrity and truth into this situation, in Jesus' Name.
"The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth." (Psalm 34:15-16)
The first ever GAO (Government Accountability Office) audit of the Federal Reserve was carried out in the past few months due to the Ron Paul, Alan Grayson Amendment to the Dodd-Frank bill, which passed last year. Jim DeMint, a Republican Senator, and Bernie Sanders, an independent Senator, led the charge for a Federal Reserve audit in the Senate, but watered down the original language of the house bill (HR1207), so that a complete audit would not be carried out. Ben Bernanke, Alan Greenspan, and various other bankers vehemently opposed the audit and lied to Congress about the effects an audit would have on markets. Nevertheless, the results of the first audit in the Federal Reserve's nearly 100 year history were posted on Senator Sander's webpage earlier this morning. What was revealed in the audit was startling . . . When you have conservative Republican stalwarts like Jim DeMint(R-SC) and Ron Paul(R-TX) as well as self-identified Democratic socialists like Bernie Sanders all fighting against the Federal Reserve, you know that it is no longer an issue of Right versus Left. When you have every single member of the Republican Party in Congress and progressive Congressmen like Dennis Kucinich sponsoring a bill to audit the Federal Reserve, you realize that the Federal Reserve is an entity unto itself, which has no oversight and no accountability. View the 266-page GAO audit of the Federal Reserve (July 21st, 2011) by going here. Read U.S. Senator Sander's commentary by going here.

IRAN NEARLY FINISHED DECODING U.S. DRONE
| Iranian experts are in the final stages of recovering data from the U.S. surveillance drone captured by the country's armed forces, state TV reported Monday. Tehran has flaunted the drone's capture as a victory for Iran and a defeat for the United States in a complicated intelligence and technological battle. American officials have said that U.S. intelligence assessments indicate that Iran neither shot the drone down, nor used electronic or cyber technology to force it from the sky. They contend the drone malfunctioned. The officials spoke anonymously in order to discuss the classified program. U.S. officials are concerned others may be able to reverse-engineer the chemical composition of the drone's radar-deflecting paint or the aircraft's sophisticated optics technology that allows operators to positively identify terror suspects from tens of thousands of feet in the air. They are also worried adversaries may be able to hack into the drone's database, although it is not clear whether any data could be recovered. Some surveillance technologies allow video to stream through to operators on the ground, but do not store much collected data. If they do, it is encrypted. "Iran will make the world unsafe," if the world attacks Iran, Sorouri said. Both the U.S. and Israel have not ruled out military option against Iran's controversial nuclear program, which the West suspects is aimed at making atomic weapons. Iran denies the charge, saying its nuclear activities are geared toward peaceful purposes like power generation. Bolton says that the Iranian jamming technology could be worse news than the downed drone. American officials insist that neither weaponry nor technology brought down a U.S. drone that was flying over Iranian territory earlier this month, but a former U.S. ambassador says if reports are true that Russia provided jamming equipment, the situation becomes all that much worse.
"Some reports have said Russia sold (Iran) a very sophisticated jamming system a short time ago," U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton told Fox News on Sunday. "Now, our military says that is not true, it came down because of a malfunction. I certainly hope that's right because if the Russians have provided Iran with sophisticated jamming equipment it means a lot else is at risk too."
Bolton said Congress ought to be concerned if the Iranians are in possession of jamming technology that can bring down missiles, planes and communications and guidance systems "for a whole range of our weapon systems." (Contributor: Fox News, Bolton: Fox News) Back to top |

U.S. CONGRESSIONAL PRAYER FOCUS
H.R. 3261: Stop Online Piracy - Senate: Protect IP Act
The House's Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA - H.R. 3261) and the Senate's PROTECT IP Act would censor the Internet and create massive regulations for every website that utilizes user-generated content. That means sites like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and popular political blogs will all be under the watchful eye of the federal government. And if one person posts one video or one image that has not been properly credited, the entire site can be shut down, without a court order. Therefore, these two bills, if passed into law, will give unprecedented power over the Internet to the government and law enforcement.
There is a problem with people stealing music and movies, and making money on it, and we need measures in place to protect intellectual property . . . but these bills go much further in limiting our freedoms. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) says, "This is a cluster bomb where you should be going in with a laser, and the collateral damage to innovation and freedom is huge."
Our Internet Freedom is under assault. The bill is being marked up December 15. The Internet Commerce Association warns the bill "could be a death knell for all domains that provide a platform for user-generated content." Congress Poised to Take Spectrum Auction Action
Congress could adopt legislation this week that would pave the way for the FCC to conduct incentive auctions of TV spectrum and share the proceeds of those auctions with broadcasters that voluntarily give up their spectrum. The House is expected to vote tomorrow or Wednesday on a major GOP jobs package called "The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2011," to which the spectrum auction proposal adopted early this month by the House Communications Subcommittee has been attached.
The House spectrum measure, authored by House Communications Subcommittee Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.), has the blessing of the NAB because it contains protections for stations that chose not to relinquish their spectrum. Once the House acts, the package is expected to move on to the Senate and win final approval by Friday or over the weekend. But there is still a possibility that the spectrum provisions could be dropped from the jobs package if Republicans and Democrats are unable to settle their differences over several critical issues, some of which are incidental to the auction authority. . .
Chief among them is a provisions dealing with the allocation of the so-called D-block spectrum to establish a national broadband public safety network. House Democrats are objecting primarily to provisions dealing with the governance and funding of the public safety network. And the Democrats are also unhappy with a controversial provision that would prohibit the FCC from applying its net neutrality rules to any new spectrum holder. . . It's D-block and net neutrality that are seen now as the real sticking points. "In the negotiation process, those are going to be harder to deal with and more important to get resolved than the broadcaster issues," says a broadcast industry source close to the negotiations. "It is all up in the air; there are so many moving parts," he says. "If they can't come to an agreement, they may say, 'let's deal with it next year.'" H.R. 373: Increasing Scrutiny of Federal Regulations
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee recently approved a bill that would increase scrutiny of regulations, reduce unfunded mandates and help bring economic growth.
New federal laws and regulations are taking a toll on small business owners, as well as state and local governments. In such a difficult economic environment, it is important that we hold the federal government accountable for the hidden costs of federal policies.

"A false balance and unrighteous dealings are extremely offensive and shamefully sinful to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight. The integrity of the upright shall guide them, but the willful contrariness and crookedness of the treacherous shall destroy them." (Proverbs 11:1,3) Amplified
H.R. 3608: The Strip Act Removes the Title "Officer" from TSA Personnel
The House GOP is looking to 'strip' TSA screeners of 'officer' title. More than two dozen House Republicans introduced legislation on Thursday that would prevent the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) from calling airport screeners "officer" unless they have gone through federal law enforcement training or are otherwise eligible for federal law enforcement benefits. Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), the lead sponsor of the Stop TSA's Reach in Policy (STRIP) Act, said that TSA has essentially allowed its airport screeners to play dress up by giving them metal badges and police-like uniforms in recent years. But she said many airport screeners have no "officer" qualifications, and should have this title removed.
She also said giving airport screeners police-like uniforms has led to problems. She said in New Jersey, a screener was arrested for impersonating an officer, and a Virginia woman was raped by a screener after he approached her showing his TSA badge.
"It is outrageous that in a post 9/11 world that the American people should have to live in fear of those whose job it is to keep us safe," Blackburn said. "Congress has sat idly by as the TSA strip searches 85 year old grandmothers in New York, pats down 3 year olds in Chattanooga, and checks colostomy bags for explosives in Orlando. "Enough is enough!" she added. "The least we can do is end this impersonation which is an insult to real cops." The bill, H.R. 3608, has 25 Republican co-sponsors, including House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman John Mica (R-Fla.). (Contributor: GovTrack)

H.R. 2070: Supporting the Addition of the D-Day Prayer to the WWII Memorial
H.R.2070, the World War II Memorial Prayer Act, was introduced by Congressman Bill Johnson. H.R. 2070 directs the Secretary of the Interior to add President Franklin D. Roosevelt's D-Day Prayer to the National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. President Roosevelt delivered the prayer to the nation on June 6, 1944, the day that American troops stormed the beaches of Normandy, France.

Supreme Court will not review Second Circuit decision preventing churches from using school facilities; churches denied access because of religious speech. The Supreme Court will not review a case that was decided by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals earlier this year, in which the court held that New York City public schools can rent school facilities to community groups after-hours, while at the same time denying churches' requests to rent the space.
The Second Circuit's decision approved the NYC Board of Education's policy of prohibiting the use of facilities for "religious worship services," saying the policy did not constitute viewpoint discrimination. Because the Supreme Court declined to review the decision, the Second Circuit's ruling will stand. According to one report, "The decision means about 60 churches have less than a month to find new spaces for their congregations." The church at issue in the case had opted to save money by paying a relatively small fee to rent school facilities on the weekends, avoiding the significant cost of renting or purchasing a permanent facility.
The church was allowed to continue meeting in the facility while the case was pending, but will now be forced to find a new venue. According to an Alliance Defense Fund attorney representing the church in the case, "Churches and other religious groups should be able to meet in public buildings on the same terms as other community groups.
They should not be excluded simply because of the religious nature of their speech."
Coalition sent letters to federal agencies opposing religious liberty in hiring practices. This week, in a continuation of the battle over the right of faith-based organizations to preserve their religious identities by hiring individuals that share their religious beliefs, a coalition of more than fifty organizations such as Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the Secular Coalition for America, sent letters to the Offices of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships in fourteen federal agencies. The letters, an example of which can be found here, clearly emphasize the groups' opposition to the Administration's current policy that allows faith-based organizations that contract with the federal government to nevertheless consider religion in their employment decisions. From the sample letter:
"The Coalition Against Religious Discrimination . . . writes to seek information about how the Obama Administration determines whether religious organizations may discriminate when hiring for government-funded positions. Administration officials have repeatedly stated that the Administration makes this determination on a 'case-by-case' basis, yet it has never explained that standard it applies or the process it uses for the analysis."
The coalition sent letters to federal departments and agencies including Agriculture, Commerce, Labor, Health and Human Services, Justice, Housing and Urban Development, Education, Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security, and the Environmental Protection Agency, the Small Business Administration, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Corporation for National and Community Services.
In August 2011, Reps. Randy Forbes and Mike McIntyre, Co-Chairmen of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, sent a letter to President Obama urging him to maintain religious hiring rights for faith-based organizations that perform contract work for the federal government. Members of the Prayer Caucus will continue monitoring this important issue to ensure that faith-based organizations are able to preserve their religious identities while also maintaining their presence in the public square.
Atheist group places anti-religious sign in Mississippi Capitol to counter nativity scene. The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) received permission to post its own sign in the Mississippi Capitol Building, countering a nativity scene that is also on display. FFRF's sign says, "There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. . . . Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds." FFRF says the sign is meant to protest the state's decision to display the nativity scene. http://ffrf.org/news/releases/ffrfs-sign-in-mississippi-capitol-counters-creche1/\
U.S. Forest Service receives over 95,000 comments on WWII memorial statue of Jesus. In the last month, Forest Service officials received over 95,000 comments about whether a World War II memorial statue of Jesus should be allowed to remain in Montana's Flathead National Forest. The Knights of Columbus erected the statue in the early 1950s and this year, the Forest Service ordered the statue's removal citing concerns about potential litigation. The Forest Service then withdrew its initial decision to remove the statue and opened the matter for public comment. Regarding the comments that have been submitted, the official leading the public review said, "It's not a count. We are evaluating and summarizing the comments, and we are considering anything that will help inform the decision-maker on pertinent issues." http://missoulian.com/news/local/over-send-comments-on-big-mountain-s-jesus-statue/article_f0927a80-20e7-11e1-9560-0019bb2963f4.html#ixzz1fxL61DAO
California city council considers displaying "In God We Trust" in city building; inspired by U.S. House of Representatives' recent vote to reaffirm the motto. The Malibu City Council is considering a proposal to display the national motto in its city hall. A council member approached the Mayor Pro Tem about considering the measure "because she was passionate about the issue following the U.S. House of Representatives' passage of a nonbinding measure last month to [reaffirm the motto]." The Mayor Pro Tem said, "If Congress felt that strongly about it, that they voted to reaffirm the motto, then it is something worth discussing in Malibu." http://malibu.patch.com/articles/malibu-could-put-its-trust-in-god
