Basics of a Successful Collection
by Janis L. Rosser, Rosser Law, P.C.

With the economic downturn, more and more clients have collections issues.  Janis L. Rosser of Rosser Law, P.C. specializes in collections and has outlined the basics of a successful collection.  In this outline, she presents the basic steps for sending a demand letter and filing suit.  For lawyers who do not regularly handle collections matters, this outline gives valuable guidance for the kind of information a person should gather and ways to avoid simple mistakes.

If you have any further questions, please contact Jan Rosser at either janr@rosserlaw.com or at 770-645-5400.

Why Do You Care About That New Bilski Business Method Patent Case?
by Clark A. D. Wilson, Gardner Groff Greewald &
Villanueva P.C.

On August 19, the SPSF Section met for a breakfast meeting at the Buckhead Club.  Those in attendance heard a presentation given by Atlanta patent attorney Clark Wilson of the Intellectual Property firm Gardner Groff Greenwald & Villanueva, P.C.  Mr. Wilson discussed the recent US Supreme Court case Bilski v. Kappos.  This case was the culmination of nearly 14 years of examination and appeals by Mr. Bilski to seek patent protection for a method of hedging commodity prices; specifically in the energy industry.

For those who were not familiar with the specifics of process and method patents, Mr. Wilson provided a brief overview in a patent law 101 orientation.  For the reader's benefit, this summary will attempt to lay a similar foundation.

Layman's Lawyer Radio Show

The Atlanta Bar Association has revived the Layman's Lawyer as a radio show. The SP/SF Section is sponsoring the October 2 (Saturday) show. The topic is legal issues facing home owners and small businesses.

Two section members will be selected to appear on the show, along with the show's host. If you would like to be considered for one of the two spots on the show, please send an email to David Lilenfeld.

Your email should describe, in 150 words or less, why you are an excellent candidate for the show. Lawyers appearing on the show need to be available on October 2 from approximately 7:00 am to 10:00 am for the live broadcast. There will also be some amount of time needed to prepare, probably 1 to 2 hours.

Please respond by 5:00 pm on September 20 (Monday).

Have a Nose for Wine?
wine

In January 2011, our section will hold a wine tasting with the Women in the Profession Section.  We need a couple of volunteer wine enthusiasts to lend their expertise to the event.  So if a few glasses doesn't impair your ability to detect hints of currant or notes of plum, please let us know.

Contact Clark Wilson or Rachel Platt  for details.
