Always Learning
January 2012

Greetings!

This issue of Always Learning deals with dreams: profound ones like those of Dr. King and more quotidian goals like getting Epiphany thousands of friends on Facebook. You who support Epiphany's dream of something better help make it all possible. You not only have the vision to see the promise and untapped potential in our wonderful students; you also have the commitment to translate that vision into reality. Thank you! The results are inspiring.

Your Grateful Head of School,

The Rev. John H. Finley IV

PS A special "thank-you" this month to our friends at St. Michael's in Holliston who organized a wonderful celebration here: healthy snacks, games, a magician, and even a homemade hovercraft, which Andrue is riding below.
Andrue Winn soars through the halls of Epiphany on a homemade hovercraft. Epiphany has a strict rule about "no running" in the hallways, but no one ever said anything about hovercrafts!

Student Reflections on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Thoughts on Martin Luther King Jr's Dream

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream that one day segregation would end and equal opportunities

would be available to all. Today his dream has come true, and Epiphany is living proof of that.

Epiphany lives out Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream because they accept everyone: white, black, yellow, or blue, and they never give up on children. This means that even if students make mistakes, they will always be there for them. Also, when graduates go off to high school, Epiphany is always there to help students financially and in any other ways needed.

Epiphany is a strong community and that is what Dr. King wanted. Epiphany helps everyone through their struggles, and every member of the school appreciates their help. If a student has a problem at home or anything outside of school, Epiphany is always there to help.

Martin Luther King Jr. wanted peace. He wanted to create a place where every human can be safe, and not have to worry about the color of their skin. Thank God Epiphany puts Martin Luther King's dream in action, because otherwise I probably would not appreciate it as much, and I probably would not be here.

My Dreams in Life

I have ambitions, goals, and dreams in life. My dream is to go to a good high school and graduate with all honors; then, go to a good college, and lastly become what I've always wanted to be: a pediatrician. I know that it will take time and patience to accomplish all of my dreams, but I am trying to reach them step by step. My top choices for high schools are Brimmer & May and Thayer Academy. I think that both these schools have plenty to offer, and I want to explore these opportunities. I know that college is a long way away, but a college that I am looking at is Howard University. It looks like a pretty good college that I would fit into nicely. I really want to be a pediatrician because I absolutely adore kids, and, if they ever got sick, I would always be there to help them get better.

I think in today's society children really want to make the world a better place. There are kids all over the world raising money for people affected by natural disasters and donating clothes and food for the needy. I say, "Everybody has a dream, and you decide if you want to live it or just watch as it fades away." I am deciding to live my dream and trust me; I will become the successful pediatrician that I dream of becoming in the future. It just takes a little time, courage and hard work. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream and did anyone stop him from chasing that dream? "NO!" He had courage and patience. He fought for an end to segregation and racism.

I have dreams, and you have dreams, so let's be like Dr. King and follow them to make them a reality!
