CATS Announces
New Leadership for 2009-2010
Creative Arts Theatre & School begins its 31st year of service to
the Arlington "arts
community" with a bold, fresh vision, and dramatically improved prospects for
the new fiscal year.
During its
September meeting, the CATS Board
of Directors voted to install long-time Arlington
resident, Eric Gentry, as President of the Board for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.
Former Board President Charlie
Bowles will take on new duties as
Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Finance, while continuing to
fill the role of interim Executive Director.
Among his early priorities, Gentry will focus on
strengthening the breadth, depth, and diversity of the Board. Expanding the
Board's membership and creating several working committees is key to the future
as CATS transitions to a
volunteer-oriented organization.
"Building on our legacy as the premier North
Texas venue for theatrical education and children's theater
performance, CATS will
increasingly supplement its professional staff with talented volunteers who
share our enthusiasm and commitment to continuing CATS'
mission in spite of difficult economic realities."
As Chief Financial Officer, Bowles
will focus on the business finances of CATS
and continue to manage the overall programs, including the prospective sale of
the CATS facility and the eventual
relocation of CATS to a new
facility.
"This is an exciting time for CATS,"
reports Bowles. "Important financial decisions are
being made daily to ensure CATS
survives these tough economic times."
Other Board officers elected include Richard
Wooster, Board Secretary, who maintains the
corporate records, and Chris Norris as Vice President Marketing.
Randy Elkins,
Don Rogstad,
Jill Dominguez,
Donna Cates,
and Michael Magnus are the other current Board
members. Additional officers, committee
chairs and committee teams will be elected and appointed in the next month as
new members join the Board.
"We're looking for energetic, passionate people who can help
CATS focus on our long-time Mission: To inspire a passion for theater in a diverse
population of children in the Arlington and North Texas area," adds Gentry.

CATS Upcoming Auditions
Auditions are open for CATS Students and, occasionally, Open to All
CATS 2009-2010 season has begun, with two shows already cast. Other shows are being planned and will be holding auditions every month through May.
"CATS productions are focused on giving a CATS student opportunities to practice their performance skills," reports Kathey Ward, Artistic Director. "We want our kids to learn how to act on-stage in front of audiences."
Some productions are open to the larger community and sometimes non-CATS actors are added when the script needs adults.
Check out the Audition page to explore the audition opportunities or come by 1100 Randol Mill Road in Arlington to sign up.
