President's Message
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a joyful holiday filled with special times with your family and friends. I sure did with my Baylor Bears winning their first Bowl game and RG3 winning the Heisman Trophy!
Since our last newsletter we have had many exceptional events. In November, Dr. Jeremy Albert held one of our first new member functions at Lee Roy Selmon's.."Kickin' it with Colleagues".We had a great time eating, drinking, socializing and of course watching the game! Look forward to a few more of these events this year.
Our meeting with Pinellas County at the St. Petersburg Marriott Hotel was again a great event. Captain Robert Alfonso, Nick Cox, Robert O'Neil and Sharon Kelly had a lot of interesting information about local pill mills, what is being done to close them down and how to protect our patients. We all had a good time reuniting with our friends and getting new information from the many vendors. If you did not have the chance to attend our holiday party, you will definitely want to plan on attending the next one. Everyone enjoyed dancing to "The Black Honkeys" and Innisbrook created a wonderful ambiance and dinner. The night was filled with good times and good deeds. Dr. Larry Lieberman cut up turkey and pork for Dr. David Burch so he could eat with his broken hand and Dr. Bob Churney won the a well deserved golf package raffle. Thank you to all that attended and brought gifts for Toys for Tots.
Gi ve Kids A Smile is around the corner, the dates for hygiene and screenings is February 3rd and treatment dates are February 17-18th. Please contact Drs. Ryan Leaman or Sanjie Jackson to let them know how you can help. If you cannot donate your time please donate supplies or funds. This is a great opportunity to help those in need in our community.
Our February meeting is odate has been set for Friday February 3rd at Countryside Lanes, so get ready! Get your team shirts and rally your offices together. It's going to be a great night! Burch's Ball Busters are recruiting Dr. James Carazola this year so look out Dr. Bill Kochenour and last year's champ Team Turner!
Many of you may not know but for the past few months we have had many of our colleagues spending a lot of effort and time representing all of us on the current fluoride issue. Drs. Johnny Johnson, Ed Hopwood, Bob Churney, Marty Bindeman, Jeremy Albert, Pete Crawford and Oscar Menendez have been part of many conference calls and meetings with commissioners. They have brought Dr. Michael Easley in town as an expert to try to educate our city officials the best they could. Please thank them for all their efforts. This is still an ongoing battle.

See you January 18th at Eastlake Woodlands Country Club. Aftco Dental is sponsoring a night on "Dental Transitions". Here's to a happy, healthy and successful 2012!

UPCDA January 18th Meeting

Vendors: BioHorizons, DSG/Clearwater Dental Lab, FDA Services, Insurance & Financial Advisors Inc. and Kettenbach.
RSVP By January 13th: Please email Lissette or call 727-449-1232 to RSVP
About the Speaker:
Dr. Thornberg is AFTCO's president, a Senior Transition Analyst, and Regional Manager for Virginia, Maryland, DC Area and North Carolina. Jeff began with AFTCO in 1987 and has been one of the top ten AFTCO Transition Analysts each year since. Jeff conducts training courses and provides support for all AFTCO transition analysts nationwide, including coordinating all communications with AFTCO's major commercial finance companies.
Course Description:
Equity to investment capital, a critical retirement strategy for practice owners: Many dentists have a lot of unrealized equity value tied up in their dental practices and that equity could be converted into investment capital, which in turn could be used as a retirement vehicle for those dentists. This unrealized value represents the actual net equity of their dental practice (including accounts receivable) minus any of its outstanding liabilities (including money owed to lenders and vendors). AFTCO has developed the Equity Conversion Program to free up the value of that practice equity. This allows the Doctor/owner(s) to use it to help with their long-term investment goals. This program can free up equity dollars for the dental profession and can make a real difference in whether or not a dentist will be able to achieve financial security in his/her lifetime (so they don't have to work until they die). Practice equity is usually considered a "static" asset that, by itself, earns no interest over time, and never enjoys the benefit of compounding interest. However, AFTCO's Equity Conversion Program converts this static asset into a "dynamic" (investment) asset, in which, as an investment vehicle, its net value can double every 7 years or so (based on the compounding rule of 72's, at 10% annual, compounded interest). If a dentist converted his/her practice equity into investment capital now and experienced the aforementioned compounding affect, then the value of that equity could grow by 4 times its current value, in 14 years and 8 times its current value in 21 years (based on a 10% annual rate of return). February 3, 17 & 18, 2012
Pinellas and Upper Pinellas County Dental Associations' Give Kids a Smile is looking for volunteers. Our mission remains: to provide a county wide approach to screen and treat uninsured children whose families are financially unable to access dental care without this program. Our dental community has proven incredibly supportive; and many uninsured children have been the beneficiaries of your kindness.
