Over the summer, the Presbytery's longtime Resource Center coordinators (Linda Russell and Jean Harshaw) have diligently sorted print and media resources, in preparation for closing the Resource Center.   
Some materials (especially curricula) will be used by the five POINT persons of the Presbytery. (See below for more information.) The rest will be available for anyone to take on Saturday, Sept 8 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the Library of the Park Central Presbyterian Church of Syracuse (504 E. Fayette Street). YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO COME, BROWSE, and TAKE items of interest to you and/or your church. 
REMEMBER:  Help with planning and choosing resources is still available! The following POINT persons would be happy to help your congregation plan for its ministry of nurturing life-long disciples of Jesus Christ:

Dates, Locations Set for Annual Records Review 

Dates for the annual review of Session records (minutes and membership rolls) have been set by the Overtures and Records Work Group of the Leadership Team.  As in previous years, locations have been arranged around the Presbytery to make it as easy as possible for Clerks of Session and Moderators to attend. 

The records review gatherings are planned for Thursdays (both afternoons and evenings) in October and November. A complete packet of information, including a cover letter, records review checklist, and copy of the updated 2012 Manual for Clerks of Session has been sent electronically to all Clerks and Moderators on August 16. Hardware, Software, Phone Discounts through PC(USA) Contracts

 

Did you know that PCUSA churches can purchase hardware, software, and cellular telephones at significant discounts through the PCUSA? And that this agreement extends to individual employees of churches, as well?

 

The national church has purchasing agreements with Dell Computers, Apple, SHI (software), CDW (peripherals), and AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Discounts vary, but can be quite substantial (e.g., 35% on Dell Computers, $69 per user license for MS Office 2010 from SHI).

 

The Presbytery has used these to purchase both hardware and software.  According to the head of IT for the PC(USA), the more churches and individuals use these agreements, the more favorable the discounts will become.

 

For a list of the participating vendors and their contact information, click here.  One warning: according to Michelle Schulz, assistant to the head of IT in Louisville, they are in the midst of renegotiating contracts--and the "reps" may change as a result.  If you have difficulty reaching the correct sales rep, feel free to call or email Michelle at 502-569-5133 and michelle.schulz@pcusa.org .

New "facebook" Page Created for Presbytery

 

In addition to our newly-enhanced website (www.cayugasyracuse.org) and to the every-other-week enewsletter, a facebook page had been created by our webspinner, Mike Grinnals, as another mechanism for communication.  It is named "Cayuga Facebook icon Syracuse Presbytery," and can be viewed by clicking on the facebook icon on the bottom left side of any page on our website.

 

Alternatively, you can find it by creating a facebook account and typing "Cayuga Syracuse Presbytery" in the search bar at the top of the page.  Check it out!

More Transition Matters...
It's hard to believe September is here! By the end of the month our office will be closed, Marianne and Renee will no longer be with us, and the Presbytery will be fully launched on its new vision. Here are some important reminders: 
Office Hours will continue their usual schedule of Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 8:30 am to 5 pm.  If no one answers, PLEASE leave a phone message so that we can get back to you.
Resource Center Give-Away Saturday, September 8
Books and media from the Presbytery's Resource Center will be available, free for taking, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm on Saturday, September 8 at Park Central Presbyterian Church, 504 E. Fayette Street, Syracuse. Park in the church lot across the street on Fayette and enter through the side door.  
Farewell Reception Sunday, September 23 3 to 5 pm
There will be a farewell reception to say good-bye and to thank Renee Perry and Marianne Rhebergen for their service to the Presbytery, from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday afternoon, September 23 at the First Presbyterian Church of Baldwinsville. The Leadership Team hopes you will put this date on your calendar and join us for this event.
Miscellaneous Furniture and Equipment Available 
A variety of items -- both large (two desks, various chairs, bookcases) and small (bulletin boards, long-handled stapler, paper cutter, etc.) will be available for free during the last week of September, as the office closes.  Click here for a list of items available and call or email Renee to indicate your interest: Furniture, Equipment to be Given Away  Weds, Sept 26 - Friday, Sept. 28 are the pickup dates, at 731 James Street, suite 400. 
Who will serve as Stated Clerk after September 30?
The Leadership Team has appointed Elder (and former Presbytery Moderator) Gail Banks of Robinson Memorial Church in Syracuse to this responsibility...and promised her a lot of help!  
Who do you call if you need help?  Although the physical office will be closing as of September 30, there are still plenty of folks ready and willing to assist your congregation.  Details will soon be posted on the Presbytery new website, but in the mean while, here are several important names and phone numbers:

Isaiah's Table to be Commissioned Saturday, September 8 at 10:15 am 

 

This Saturday, you just might want to make a trip to Syracuse -- to help launch the Presbytery's first new missional iniative, Isaiah's Table: Grace, Hope, Food for All and to browse the remaining books, periodicals, and media from the Presbytery's Resource Center, and take some home with you...permanently!

 

Isaiah's Table is a new Presbyterian ministry on the near west side of the City of Syracuse, formed from the passion for feeding the hungry by some folks who were members of the former First Presbyterian Church United of Syracuse.  

 

The Leadership Team invites the entire presbytery to join Isaiah's Table for worship (including a commissioning service and the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper) at 10:15 am on Saturday, September 8, followed by an hour of conversation and dialogue about just what a "new missional initiative" is. Have you been thinking about purchasing one or more copies of the 2012 Mission Yearbook for Prayer and Study?  Now is the time to do it.  

 

Renee reports that she still has many copies of the Mission Yearbook...but any remaining will be returned to Louisville during the week of September 24.  There are also three copies of the 2012-13 Program Calendar and nine copies of the 2012-13 Book of OrderCall now! All are $8.50 a copy.

Free Online Teaching Training

 

Did you know that a series of four free teaching training courses are available online through a denominational partnership called, Opening Doors to Discipleship?

Through a cooperative venture of the Reformed Church in America, Moravian Church in America, Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Church in Canada, and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), these twelve session courses have been developed and are available free of charge to members of PCUSA congregations.

 

Designed with Sunday school teachers, pastors, and educators in mind, the four courses are

  • Teaching Skills
  • Bible Background
  • Presbyterian & Reformed Faith and
  • Discipleship.
