ARCH

Greetings!

ARCH is a T/E School District organization that serves as a resource for families to help their children form a positive self-image, make healthy choices, and reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD).

ARCH was formed in 1981... at a time when many of us were kids ourselves and the concept of prevention was first being introduced.  Our kids are experiencing a world of choices (good and bad) that did not exist in the 80's and 90's.  ARCH programming is aimed at helping YOU understand the landscape of parenting a children in today's world... hoping to make the road traveled a little smoother.

ARCH has monthly meetings that are part information, part operation.  Everyone is welcome.  Our next meeting is Wed, Sept 19 (9-10:15am) at the T/E Administrative Offices.  Our guest speaker this month is Claire Ryan of COAD.  She will talk about the SAP program in our middle and high schools.  All are welcome.

This book offers practical advice on everyday questions that challenge parents.   When is my child ready to go to the mall? Have a cell phone? Date? Drive?  Parents learn to tie granting new privileges to their adolescent's growing capabilities and demonstrated responsibility. The strategies offered honor a teenagers' need for more independence while keeping them safe, as well as minimizing the conflicts that can harm family relationships.

Letting Go

Letting Go with Love and Confidence: Raising Responsible, Resilient, Self-Sufficient Teens in the 21st Century

For parents, nurturing their teens to become healthy, well-adjusted adults seems more challenging now than ever before. There are many pressures for kids to grow up faster than they should. Here, renowned adolescent medicine specialist Kenneth Ginsburg, M.D., and award-winning journalist Susan FitzGerald offer parents a practical, thoughtful strategy for guiding children through all the turning points on the way to adulthood - the "whens" and "hows" of adolescence.

You're Invited!  Co-Author, Susan FitzGerald, will be speaking at the Oct 17 ARCH Monthly Meeting.  See Book Talk (left column).
